car= 93 civic si h/b 1.6 d16z6

hoping to replace vtec selanoid/spool valve gaskets this weekend. For sure i have oil leak there. Car has 164k km's / 102k miles and i don't think its been done before. The honda service manual doesn't mention anything about putting fresh motor oil on the gaskets, but on other gaskets they do.

so just wanted to verify before proceeding. Do i have to coat the vtec selanoid gaskets with fresh motor oil? - or - do i just clean up the mating surfaces on the head and selanoid real good and then reinstall? Also do i have to clean the inside of the vtec selanoid with brake cleaner or just leave it be?

U can clean the head with brake cleaner, ive done it before, have had no problems with it...i also advise u coating the gasket with a little oil...makes 4 an easier install and swells gasket slightly...good luck

Alright then its confirmed; Apply a little bit of fresh motor oil on vtec solenoid gaskets (the one on top of the solenoid & the one on the side against cylinder head).
