what swap should i buy?
If you plan on keeping the motor relatively stockish, the best bang for your buck is a b20z with a gsr tranny in my opinion. You can pick that setup dirt cheap compared to the VTEC swaps. They pull strong for the money and parts and maintenance is cheap and straightforward. You will deffinatly wanna do a nice intake/header/exhaust to open it up but you would prolly be happy with the results.
Good luck with your choice!
well if you were to compare a b16b with a b18c what is better? i really want a k20 but i was told they cost alot and my buddy has a b20 vtec the car moves pretty good but i would really like to get more info on motor so i will have a better idea on what to buy
K20 does cost a pretty penny but its a beast of a motor if you stay n/a or turbo but full swap its up there 6k easy I have a buddy that has one in his eg and it moves. But the cost is up there. Just depends how deep your pockets really are.
Real question is what are you planning to do with the car ? Thats the question you have to ask yourself DD / Track / Autocross.
B16B > GSR but question again whats the car for ?
I debated on the swap i wanted to do with mine but i know what my overall go is for a mix of DD/Track with gsr turbo. But thats me i got a great deal on a swap i couldn't pass up from my buddy GSR/ b16 trans. Right now its a fun daily til i save up the funds for building the motor for boost the proper way.
Everyone going to give good suggestions and advice but the same question will be asked as followed How deep your pockets are ? and What the overall purpose of the car, thats honeslty the only real way to give a good debat on what to look for.

Based on further comments I gather you're not simply looking for enough power to pass on the highway.
In that case, I suggest H2B. H-series motor with B-series transmission:

The kit is not cheap, but if you want bang for the buck and are talking B16B/B18C/K-series pricing, this sounds like a feasible option that will yield very good power.

Really depends on what you want the car for. If you are a track runner I'd suggest either a B18C or B16B. Excellent for the track, but if you want something really strong on the road that you can boost get a B18b and boost it. It's a great platform to start with. K engines me personally I'm not a huge fan of. I'm a B guy through and through but the K is a strong engine. Hope this helps
Like others have mentioned, it is difficult to get an idea of what we can recommend until we get an idea of:
your purpose
your price limit
and how much work you want to put into it.
Im running a b18c1 in my hatch. They are quick motors when built a bit.
If you are doing track/autocross I would recommend a quick revving NA set up.
Best bang for your buck is going to be an ls/vtec or b20 vtec. Requires some fabrication but MUCH cheaper than a GSR or C-r swap.
For street use I would recommend the same and also would like to throw in a b20 or b18a/b turbo setup. You can get a hefty 250hp reliably on stock internals.
For drag setup's the skys the limit and so is displacement. lol On a track the weight of an h22 could throw the weight distribution, which is already pretty bad, way out of wack. But on a drag strip, weight balance is not as big of an issue. I would also recommend most higher displacement (1.8, 2.0) turbo set ups for this.
Or you could just build a BA turbo single slammer. =D

These types of threads pop up at least once a week and they go for 2 or 3 pages while deviating far off the the topic and they ALWAYS have the same answers in them and the OP inevitably NEVER gets the swap done.
Exactly, do some research and get some pictures of what you have to work with, then afterward we can help or coach you along. We can only do so much but the decision is up to you what to do with it.
Best bang/buck is h2b. b20vtec is a close second if you're into rebuilding motors. A b20 with some solid piston/cams is hard to bear.
The most cost-effective way to go fast though is a turbo charger. A d-series with $3,000 in it in the form of a turbo charger will mop up any $6,000 n/a build.
It would at least be close.

IIRC the weight difference was minimal between the H and B.
EDIT: Linky.
I am pretty sure I read a thread where a guy weighted an H, B and D engine and documented the weights.

Even at 30lbs that's not worth mentioning. Relocate your battery. Hell, most people remove a/c or power steering. All that **** weighs 15-30lbs.
I'm so tired of seeing that garbage perpetuated about the h block being 5,000lbs heavier and therefor negating the extra 30ft/lbs of torque and 30-50hp it has over it's b-series brethren.
Get over it, the h22 is a kickass engine and the h2b kit is probably the best thing that ever happened to the hybrid world.

We learn something every day I guess!
H2B away then my friend! (H22 engine with b16 or b18 vtec transmission)
From other peoples experience though I've heard its a bit more difficult to do an H22 swap than a b series swap. Any truth to that?

My friend's doing an F20b swap from a Accord SiR wagon, that's like 190hp@ 7200 rpm, 150 ft@ 5500 rpm, 11.0.1 compression... i think it cost about $1800 for everything
