It's a simple resistor, but I don't know the precise specs. It's resistance should be 350-700 Ohms. People normally replace the distributor housing when any of the distributor sensors go bad. Why do you think yours is bad?

The OEM [edit: crank-TDC] sensor for the 97 Civic EX is under the "oil pump-oil strainer" listing at bkhondaparts.com, hondapartsnow.com and similar.

Ebay has an aftermarket version of the crank-TDC sensor, but longevity seems better for OEM ignition parts vs. aftermarket.

Edit: See below for info on the TDC sensor located in the dizzy housing.

Are you confusing the CKF and TDC sensors?

The parts sites list a "crank-TDC sensor" under the oil pump listing for the D16y8. But the service manual shows the dizzy housing holding the usual (for 90s Civics) three engine sensors: TDC, CKP, CYP. I bet you're right and Zunde meant the latter. In which case purchasing a new housing is the only way to go for reliability, in my experience. The housing runs about $240 before s/h on the OEM parts sites.

Zunde, maybe elaborate to be sure. What code is your EX throwing etc.?

Ron J , I replaced the dizzy and that seems to have stopped my cel P1362. Is it feasible to obtain a new sensor and replace it myself or has my old dizzy become a "parts only" paperweight.....

If you can find the proper resistor, it can be replaced. However, it's also possible that one of the two TDC sensor wires of the distributor are bad and the sensor is good. Resistance tests, open tests, and short tests should pinpoint the problem.

I ohmed out the sensor at the dizzy plug in and it read 6.07K ohms. I think I read in another post of yours that it should be 300 to 400 ohms. I do not recall seeing anyone post a part number or exact info as to a replacement part.........I have access to many different resistors if I know what I need........anyone.....

Ohm test your collection of resistors. Any that measures 350-700 Ohms and has the proper wire gauge should work.

None of the three sensors or associated parts of same are available individually from Honda or any aftermarket auto part company of which I know. As Ron pointed out, the custom is to replace the whole distributor housing. Which makes sense, since if one sensor is failing, the others (and associated wiring, and the wiring harness for the dizzy as a whole) are likely deteriorating, too. I recommend only an OEM distributor housing. The engine will likely run better with a whole new housing.

On the other hand, if one has the time; likes this as a hobby; and wants to learn more about the distributor (both mechanical and electrical features) on this generation of Hondas, go for it. Seeing the actual TDC coil (fixed on the housing) and its associated rotating reluctor (mounted on the dizzy shaft) is interesting, per http://sites.google.com/site/hondali...ributorbearing for a 92-95 Civic DX/LX.

The error says
Code 001: 08-01 tdc sensor 1 no pulse

But car is running.
I read somewhere that simple contacts clean-up can solve the problem.

Buying whole housing for 300 bucks is not a very good option for me as it's almost 20% of car value

Blue, black, green, red, gold color band will be spot on. Should always replace resistors to exact amounts when it comes to senors.

You replaced the CKF sensor not the TDC sensor, youll have to replace your distributor to replace the sensor.

Hello all,

I am trying to renew car tabs. And need to pass emission test for that. However the test failed because computer threw code P1362. I had the Check engine light on for few months now. I tried to reset it using scan tool, but it came back up as soon as i started my car. All i am looking here is how to pass the emission test. Any suggessions will help.
Thanks.
