what is the cylinder sensor?

Re: what is the cylinder sensor?
If you are talking about one of the sensors (CYP) in the distributor, then the distributor housing must be replaced if the sensor is bad. Before buying a new distributor, though, check the sensor wires for problems.

Another option for the hobbyist or person on a budget: Get a used sensor or entire housing from a UPull junkyard; replace the sensor. The CYP sensor (of the three in the dizzy housing) is the easiest to replace; its replacement is even covered in the shop manual. See http://honda.lioness.googlepages.com/distributorbearing
OTOH if your Civic is 92-95 DX or LX, an all-new OEM housing runs only about $100 at online OEM parts dealers like bkhondaparts.com. You get three new sensors and all new housing wiring. Fuel mileage may improve with a whole new OEM housing. You transfer over the coil, igniter, rotor, and dizzy cap to the new housing.
