Why would a tranny fail if motor oil were to be used?
Autos use differnt stuff because the fluid is majorly for cooling, not so much lubrication. A manual's tranny fluid is soley for lubrication like an engine.
i used motor oil for almost a year in my transmission. worked great. thats what is reccomended if you cant use honda MTF.
but if you can, use honda MTF. its the best.

I was told that motor oil would work also so I used it and noticed that my tranny screwed up after about a year on that motor oil; spend the extra $$ on Honda MTF now and save your tranny......some might not agree but just my .02 cents, your choice.
i've been running mobil 1 in my trans for a long while now with no problems. and i drag it at the track like 2 times a month. 5 or 6 passes each time i go.

How long are you guys running motor oil for before flushing it and refilling? I always thought that the motor oil would break down quicker than MTF, unless changed regularly. ATF is also different because of the pressure built up, especially in older style vehicles where gear changing is not electronic.
