Temp Gauge Sender
!990 CRX D15B. Is there a trick to removing the temp gauge sending unit or does the distributor have to come off? I installed it before the distributor. And i just set the timing. Pep Boys sold me what appeared to be the right part but the gauge pegs out when cold. I looked at the reciept and it says oil temp sender. It screwed in and the plug fit but....
What tricks do you need? The temperature sender is easy to remove - move the lower hose enough to get a socket on it or contort yourself to use a combination wrench... Bleeding the coolant is a different story...
To bleed the coolant system, after your repair, fill the radiator until the coolant comes up to about and inch below the top of the fill neck. Gently squeeze the upper radiator hose several times until the bubbles stop coming out, filling as your coolant level drops since all the coolant in the cylinder head came out when you replaced the temp. sending unit. After it wont take anymore coolant, leave the radiator cap off and start the car to get the water pump spinning and sucking the coolant level down, then fill it back up until theres about a half inch from the top of the fill cap. Put the cap back on and top off your reservior. let the car idle and come up to temp and the fans come on. Check your reservior level now and after your next trip.
Reason i asked is because i couldnt seem to get a socket over the sender. The incorrect one they sold me looks like it has a larger outside diameter than the correct one. Was just wondering how it is usually done? Wheather the dist has to come off or not?
