also wondering what my actuall comp/ratio would be with this setup in a b16a with a b18cr head or c5 head if there is any difference and what kinda gasket to go with this??? i hear 2 layer and 3 layer... which one.... and something about clay???

B17 cranks and rods are hard to come by these days. The guys who have them usually keep them or sell them for a good amount.

Your compression ratio is going to be well over 12:1. I would strongly suggest not using those pistons.

The difference between a b16a head and a type-r head is two fold. From the factory, the type-r head comes with a mild port on the intake side i believe. Also, the type-r cams are a bit more aggressive than stock b16a cams. Hope this helps.

ya i know the heads are pretty close to the same. i dont have one anylonger cause i sold it to a friend that needed one and since the motor has been sittin for a year or so i could use the money then, so im just gonna get a tpye r one now. i had kids so the motor was sittin for awhile do to a spun rod bearing lol but its time to resurrect her. so im deffently goin with b17 crank and rods but wat pistons would u use....... i know the b16b pistons would work but its cuttin it real close so if u have any suggestions.... i was just thinkin of gettin some b16a pistons over sized maybe 82mm. maybe from toda or crower

I would use JDM B16 pistons. I believe they are P30's. If you can't get a set of those, I would use PR3's from a US B16A. Those should put you at around 11.5:1.

Ok, just PM me when you are ready. I can probably get a set of OEM B17 rods too which you can get shotpeened for extra strenght. Gonna be another $250 for the rods due to scarcity...

i was also just thinkin about goin w some 82mm pistons for a b16a to get more of a true 1.7 rather then the 1677cc that it really is. would u know the actual cc's of the b16a if i run the larger pistons w b17 crank and rods and would that bump up the comp a little bit. i know u said it would be about 11.5:1 with the b16a pistons but im talkin about the oversized pistons....? thanks

PR3 pistons are from the US B16A and p30's are JDM B16A pistons. The JDM B16A has a bit higher compression than the US counterpart. The over sized pistons won't give you all that much more compression or displacement.

I have a correction to make though. For some reason I was thinking that this was all going in a B18C. Your compression may not be that high even with a B17 crank. These pistons and a two-layer head gasket should give you what you want.

Source a B20 block and put the B17A crank into it.

Why de-stroke a B20?

Its NOT destroking a B20..... it is actually maintaining the B16A rod ratio while obtaining more displacement with his B17A crank.

He'll need longer rods due to the b20 taller deck, so actually he would be increasing the r/s ratio if he kepth the b17 crank and the same piston to deck height...

Would definately be an interesting build. I also would skip the PCT/CTR pistons... Shoot for around 11.5 ish to 1 compression and you should have no problems tuning with pump gas.

is the b17's block the same cast as a b16 or a b18?

hey gotta nother question i was lookin at specs on the r/s ratios on the b16a and b17a and i noticed the the rods on the b17a are shorter then the b16a. i already new the crank stroke was larger on the b17a thats why i want it for my b16a.

so in saying all this since the rods are indeed longer on the b16a can i just use b16a rods and pistons with the b17a crank... would i have the valve clearance that i need w a cammed head???

with that information, i am assuming that the block on a b17 is the same as the block from a b16, considering that the rods are shorter on a b17 to make up for the longer stroke.

i wouldn't use b16 rods. i would stick with the b17 rods. you still should be able to use the b16 pistons though.

The B20 crank is the same as the B18 crank so putting a B17 crank into a B20 block is de-stroking

b16 and b17 share the same deck height (same block).
The b18's A,B,C and the B20 have the taller deck. (taller block).
