i have a 2000 civic with power doors and a clifford... it worked fine but one day i heard a loud noise coming from the door when it locked... now the door wont lock at all... not with the key,alarm or door switch... what could it be? is it the actuator? help please...

 

My drivers side door is the same way. I took the door panel off and tried to move the metal rod... it won't budge. I think my lock cylinder is frozen.

 

i took out the panel and everything seems fine... if i pull the rods by hand then it unlocks...

 

it will move for me if i pull it but it gets stuck if i use the unlock button on the clifford or power lock switch...

 

when i move the actual rod it works fine... if i hit the clifford button it will lock and unlock for like 5 times then it will just stay unlocked...

 

Might be the actuator.

The actuator just unscrews from the latch.

 

i took the original one off today to replace it but i cant put the new one on... it has 3 screws holding it on but theres a little lever that needs to be on which i cant seem to put since its at an uncomfortable location... should i just remove the latch?

 

It is a pain, you have have attach it to the latch and then position it back into the door and then align the screws. There is room but very tight, you need patience to do it.

 

so it is possible to do without taking out the latch? i tried this morning and even removed the window rail to give me more room but i cant seem to put the little lever on the latch...

 

No take the latch and actuator out together, take off the old actuator put new on then put back in.

 

thats what i was trying to avoid but i guess i have no choice... how hard is it pulling out the latch besides the 3 screws?

 

Not hard at all, pull the screws, make sure you unsnap the latch rods and pull out, will make you life so much easier to replace the actuator.

Tell me how it works out for you, plus removing or pushing the window channel helps too, like you said you did.

 

all the rods come off the latch or some stay attached to it?

 

Yes, you unsnap the rods off the door and the ones on the latch stay attached.

very helpful! i did it this morning... it was a mission because i had to take off the exterior door handle to remove that rod thats attached to the handle... once i removed that it was cake... thanks for everyones help... glad theres a forum where people can get helpful info and not everyone bashing on everyone...

 

I am surprised you needed to touch the exterior handle.

 

i couldnt find a way to remove that rod that screws onto the handle...
