Default Valve cover venting/catch can question

I was wondering if I was to run 2 lines off the back of the block and 2 off the INTAKE side of the valve cover if that would work as well as 4 off the valve cover. most setups I see have 2 off the exhaust side of the vc rather than the intake side.. is there a reason for this? also could I cut off and weld a -10 fitting over the stock vaucume hose fitting that runs to the intake stock. the one thats at like a 45angle right next to the oil fill cap?

I also see guys running 4 off the valve cover and 2 off the back of the block? is that over kill? and whats the purpose of the baffle if there are people who pipe off the Intake side?
