Default valve cover breathers

hey i was looking at some posts... perticularly the one with the kid getting a ticket and having to see a ref and in there it was stated that valve cover breathers are illegal?? why? and next.. wat exactly do they do? i have my intake hooked up to the valve cover, but some of my friends have the breathers on their valve covers.

i can see why they are illegal as they let crankcase vapors out into th atmosphere, they are designed to let the pressure out and to not let oin into the intake tract.

If it is not re-routed into the intake stream I believe that some "environmentally harmful" vapours are vented to the atmosphere. If you run a breather for a little while you will see it accumulates a bunch of oily junk.
Since I boosted mine I just ran the tube from my valve cover to my charge pipe. It isnt actually connected to it, but at a glance no one would notice.

i thought a hose was supposed to connect the valve cover part to the intake tubing? if bad vapors and **** come out.. why would u want it hooked up to ur intake.. i thought u want fresh air for that.. espcially it oil comes out? goin intot the IM wouldnt be too good.

Its for emmissions. Instead of releasing all that garbage into the air, you burn it off in the engine. Get a catch can to catch the oil vapor/condensate and just drain it as needed. Keeps your intake manifold cleaner I think it the idea.
