Did the R's have keyless from the factory?
Since most of the higher end models came with keyless by default, I would assume the R's most likely also came with keyless.. but I am having an issue getting the car to respond to my remote. Can anyone confirm if they came equipped with keyless or not?
The Type R wasn't originally designed to have such luxuries despite it being considered a high end model (at least the early JDM models... USDM IMO seems to have more luxuries than the JDMs, correct me if I'm wrong).
What remote do you have and are trying to use? OEM or aftermarket?

huh? i remember back in the day Esteban (EPGONZALES) unlocked his car with a remote and i asked if he added it on and he said it was standard for 2001 models. maybe the dealer installed it and used it as a way to make up the price.

My 2001 didn't come with a remote. So...I am unsure. I have to buy a remote for my EM1 since mine stopped working so well. So I might try to program it to the R first and see what happens.
I have an aftermarket alarm installed on mine. So it has keyless entry with that. Never bothered checking if it had keyless from the factory.

Im pretty sure its a dealer option. I was able to find a 1998 Sales document and it didn't list keyless as a standard or dealer installed option. I was kind of surprised to see A/C was a dealer added option for the 1998 models. I guess I got lucky, because mine has A/C. The car has an OLD Viper alarm on it. I am not sure if it is still hooked up as there are no remotes or anything for it. It would cost me quite a bit to add the siren and the remotes so I think I'll just buy another alarm offline and install it myself. I don't want anyone hacking up the wiring any more then the previous owners have.

PM Vegas10 about the alarm. He's the expert and can be vouched by many here.
There were also two different models of alarm that could be purchased from acura as a dealer installed option. Hood switch was also a factory option but only on models equipped with A/C... remote entry was part or the alarm if you had elected to go that route.

On the itrs, I seen 2 options. All were dealers add ons. One was a karr brand alarm system. Which the dealer has a local shop come and install it.
Second was a honda unit. This unit is tee'ed in the the car with a harness and is plug and play. And is easly unplugged. I am scared to say were they put the brain. Not very hard to find if your cleaning your car.
