Either or, better yet both, common problem, done it twice in last year. Welding once in car learned from that then took it out next. Getting another one to reinforce for a backup. Pics of common break point on my build thread

Yeah that picture you have posted up is where mine broke, I can see clearly it broke right off from where it was welded at, I knew something was up because my clutch sensor wasnt working to start the car because the pedal was so bent. So i can pull the old one out and have it welded and fixed? my dads friend does really good fab work and is a great welder. Also how big of a pain is it? worth taking the dash out? or just taking the seat out? I have never taken the dash out on a ef but from what I have learned about ef's so far is just about everything is ignorant to do , nothing is easy on a ef it seems.
Iv heard there's a hidden bolt I havnt had to deal with this yet id take the seat out before I would the dash gl bro

you CAN do it with out taking the dash out, you'll need to take out the steering column though. then crawl around on your back. any clutch pedal assembly will work, only difference on the si is there's a spring on the pedal assembly that isn't there on the std and dx models but doesn't effect the pedal... it's almost like an "assist" spring. i know because i swapped from my 88std pedals to a set of 91 si pedals. but honestly just get yours welded if possible

Sorry for not answering quicker was at work, been trying to find the thread i used, gives pic by pic on what to do... one second
reason i couldn't find it was because it was in the FAQs
https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-crx-ef-civic-1988-1991-3/manual-pedal-cluster-auto-car-1220898/
Took me a full day, take the front seat out, also it recommends taking the air ducting out, i took both out, have a pad for your back and goggles to protect from dirt and grime...
