Rebuild or swap?

Hey everyone. You can ignore my other two posts. The car is a 1993 accord ex 2.2L automatic. Went to have my car looked at as to why the axle seal keeps going bad on the driver side and got some bad news. Where the axle goes into the transmission there is a lot of play in that bearing inside it. So tranny is going out on me. The question is rebuild it, swap it, 5 speed it, or call it quits and get a new car? The problem is that I have put a lot of money into it and really do not want to get rid of it. If I can just by a rebuilt one and swap it I can handle that but doing a 5 speed conversion scares me a little. Any advice is welcome! Thanks!

Well I would kind of like to venture into a 5 speed but how much work is really involved in the swap? In other words what all will I need and how hard is it to do? I will look at a thread on how to do it too.
5 speed swap instructions are bountiful on the interwebs. Just a quick list of what you'll need though.
Tranny (H or F series)
Shift cables
Shifter assembly
Clutch master cylinder
Clutch fluid reservoir
5 speed pedal assembly
Hydraulic lines
5 speed ECU (might can get by without it, not sure)
And a little wiring to fix a few things in the swap
It's a good experience if your up for the task, and you'll learn a lot doing it. But it's definitely not the cheapest way out. F and even H series trannies
are a dime-a-dozen. Cruise Craigslist and you'll find one.

Yea the rewiring doesn't scare me. I work at best buy in the install bay so that's the easy part...LOL. I don't wanna throw too much into it because of the high miles and the write ups I have found make me think that it's my daily driver and I guess it may be more important to get her back on the road and running like a champ again. I am also in my last year of school and getting married next summer so I have to keep it as cheap as possible. I partly blame myself for not putting honda tranny fluid in the first time I changed it. Very DUMB on my part! I figure an auto swap would take half the time and it's a lot easier. I will still keep the manual in the back of my mind as I will probably do the swap this week. So it is still a possibility! Thanks everyone!
I agree with the recommendation to find a used transmission and just sway things out. It will get you on the road again and probably for less money.
I am not absolutely certain about your model year, but Honda generally disables the vehicle when there is an ECU swap which means that the car has to be towed to a dealer to reset things. It is something to check out before proceeding with the 5 speed project if you want to go that way.

If you go with a used one, try to get one with the torque converter.....either way pull it and drain it. Then refill with Honda fluid.....and that would include the trans as well....this would then set a baseline for all future fluid changes on the trans.

well the left differential bearing is replacable and I believe thats what the problem is. Maybe I could just replace that once I get it apart, we will see.
