15x8 wheel and 245/45/15 tire help
I am wanting to get the hoosier 245/45/15 tire. These are front tires only.
I have some concerns if I get them though:
1. I have a set of 15x7 regamasters to put them on. These would be too small and I would need to go with a 15x8 wheel right?
2. If I run a 15x8 wheel, will I run into any problems? I have spacers if needed and am going to be running extended lug studs.
Thanks

Although not ideal, there are people who have put 245 tires on a 7" wide wheel. They did that mainly because of race rules limitation.
Clearance issue would vary depending on the offset of your wheel. I imagine that you would need something in the +30's, otherwise it would prolly rub the inside wheel well.

I'm not a wheel expert but a 40+ 15x8 will rub like crazy on the inner wheel well while turning and will rub trailing arms in the rear. extended studs and slavers are a must IMO
Those that are running 15x8 wheels, what spacers do you have to use?
The wheels that they will be going on are rota 15x8 +40 offset. I am running the Acura TL lug studs which are longer than the R's but do not stick out past the open ended holes of the lug nuts.
Is the consensus that the wheels will work with a spacer? Probably a 8-10 mm spacer?
I just dont want to spend $700 and be SOL
I am running 15x8 with a 3mm front spacer but that is with 225's. The tire does rub against the front frame rail during high G corners.
If this is for drag I think you will be okay with the 245 up front on a 15x8 assuming your car is not dumped to the ground.
For any sort of sport requiring turning, you will have issues with a 245 unless you push it out pretty far with a wheel spacer and either get flares, wide fender, fender spacer or don't mind your tires sticking out way past the fender.
Either way good luck.
Here's my car with 225's.

^^Is he running 245 in the back too? I assume just the fronts, because with 225's in the back of my car it's already running out of room and I'm rolled flat.
For those who have actually ran different widths 205,225,245 how noticeable was the difference/laptimes? Obviously going from a 195 street tire to a 245 hoosier is going to be a change but I'm referring to same type tire and upgrading widths.
I see what you mean with 225's in rear, it would give you a nice polished strip on the trailing arm.
That's also the main reason why I chose to run 225/50-15 instead of 225/45-15 with the mandated RA1 in HC (max load 1201 vs 1323 lbs).
Yah I ran a completely different tire as well, so not really any comparisons on just tire width with the same compound. But I can tell you that 225 RS3's are amazing. I was taking a long sweeper about 3-4 mph quicker (80mph vs. 76ish mph) steady state versus the 195-55-15 star specs I was running on the stock rim.
Thanks for the reply Wai, knowing a time/G difference would have been interesting but thanks for bringing facts into my vague question. I honestly have never paid much attention to load rating on tires. Very interesting, I'm still trying to get the right tire pressure in my RE-11 and a million other things.
JDM, thanks as well!
