which exhausts are street legal?
i'm looking to buy an exhaust, but i only want a street legal one b/c this is my daily driver. specifically, i'm thinking about teh apex ws or comptech. are these street legal? what other models are street legal?
i would say.. All the exhausts on the market here are legal. Why? because if it is legal then the goverment won't even let the shops here sale them you got it?
Cops are full of ****
Cops are full of ****
I like that point....i should bring that up somewhere.....we could make quite a case with that point. Also where do you live...it matters...up here in maine there all basically illegal, unless there extremely quiet....all aftermarket is basically illegal unless you purchased the car in that condition....
Cops are full of ****, but ya know what - they are the ones you have to convince.
I have an N1 which is legal in the state of California, which we all know has the strictest exhaust/emissions laws. However in NY, there is no law. The law simply states that if an exhaust is modified to make more noise than stock its illegal. lol
which is basically everything in the world...
So Ive gotten 2 tickets for my N1 by ***** cops. One even told me "anything other than stock is illegal". I have a ful cat, and during one ticket I even had my silencer in - they could care less. It looks loud, therefor it IS loud. Cant argue with a cop.

i'm planning on buying a relatively quiet exhaust - or just not so loud like the n1 - so i'm not really concerned w/ cops, just passing smog. i don't wanna have to switch back to stock to pass smog. so i just wanna know which exhausts will pass smog - if any...
My RS*R is beast. I went through several exhausts before it. I like the rsr cuz it's quiet under normal driving conditions, but loud when you juice it.

With the whole noise level ****.... you don't have to worry. Yes, dere is a law that states that if its louder than stock its illegal.... but the problem is that any cop that pulls you over has to measure it, which they can't. So they may give you a ticket but when court day comes you'll end up walking out making another cop feel stupid. Because it would be thrown out for lack of evidence. This was told to me by the Inspector at my dad's shop. Oh and i run a N1 catback without a silencer and without a care in da world about it.
Just because a shop can sell it to you or install it for you doesn't mean it's ok. Maybe in CA there's a law against that, but that's certainly not the case everywhere. Here in CO, it's very common for places like Midas to chop off the muffler and weld on a tip (which amplifies the noise even more). The result isn't even close to legal to drive on the street here, but the shop can't get into trouble for it.
And this varies from state to state. There's also a lot of BS and speculation that gets passed off as fact. If you tell a cop or judge that "well, I read on Honda-Tech.com that this is street legal, etc...", they'll probably look at you like you're an idiot and you'll still have to pay the fine. And believe me, the cop has a much better idea of what's ok or not than you do, it is his job afterall. So, don't think he's full of it because of some crap you read here. Read the laws for your state if you want a good and accurate answer.

Isnt 95 decibles the legal limit?
Right on Weston.
The cop doesnt have to "measure" your exhaust to give you a legitimate ticket for it becasue there is no set legal limit. Laws that are vague such as the NYS law leave it up to the Officers discretion. However there is a good chance of getting it thrown out if you dont mind the hassle.
You can get traffic laws at your DMV.
. One even told me "anything other than stock is illegal". :
inteGSR....since you also live in CA, its only a matter or time till some stupid cop pulls you over and gives you the same **** he did me, so if you want an exhaust, its all on you
