What if I think the gas station attendant put REGULAR 89 in my tank?
What is the worse that could happen? I'm leaving on a track day Saturday morning, 2.5hr drive, so I need to know quick.

unless your car is tuned for 93, it'll be fine. might hear a knock, but if the R is stock you should be fine.
*if you're worried, you could run it a little and then add octane booster. and i mean octane booster not a can of NOS.

First off where do you live that someone still pumps the gas for you? Did you get a receipt? It should tell you the grade of fuel that was pumped... Third, you will be fine... Just fill up with premium next go-around...

For the ultra paranoid, one can always dump in a bottle of octane booster.

You're fine, if you had a built engine with internals made for abuse, than you'll have to drain it and buy high octane fuel. If you're running a stock engine, you won't ruin anything.

NJMP Lightning. I'll see if I can borrow a camera. Also, Honda Challenge will be racing there the same days so I can watch some Club Racing

I have tomorrow to kill the gas, should I drive to empty the tank to near 0 and then fill up with 93 again or is it okay to mix a little (say, drive down to 1/8th before the indicator goes)?

Fuel is to expensive to just waste it. I'd drive it to 1/3-1/2 tank then refill it with 93 or 94 octane. I know that some gas stations in north/central NJ where you are have 94 octane, Sunoco on 95 I believe.
Keep the engine load low, i.e. avoid large throttle input which inceases the dynamic compression. A light load with higher RPM is preferred. My father put 89 in my stock 97 GSR once and it ran like poo due to timing retardation.
Yes it will.
If your worried about it, just run your car gently on the 87 for about 4-gal worth (you know your typical mpgs right?). Then go fillup the tank with 100 octane unleaded race-gas from a local station that carries it (76 in my area). This will make a mix 9gal 87 and 4gal 100 which gives you a tank full of 91.

I'd definitely throw in some good octane booster like 2 gallons of AVGAS 100LL or another race gas to knock the octane rating up a few points. Being 89 it's not that bad but if it were 87 that would make it a little more on edge.
First off, they don't have self service gas stations in NJ? Thats really different! I could not imagine someone else pumping my gas. Anyway, its not an issue at all. I run it periodically if I get off a random exit and they have premium jacked up. Just burn it down and then fill up with premium. Like Dogginator said, as long has you don't got WOT you wont notice it. Enjoy the track day, I'm jealous my man! I replied to your pm.
don't put octane booster, its useless (marketing is an amazing thing)..... add some 94 or get a gallon of C16 to add :D
I would mark your dizzy at its current location, and retard the ignition in case u forget and beat on the car..... takes 2 seconds...... when your at the track or get good gas set it back, GL

THIS!
This thread is making me LOL. Absolutely nothing will happen to your car if you put 89 in it. Your ECU will retard the timing a little bit, you will run a little rich and you wont have all your power or mpg until the correct gas is back in it. Thats it. Move on and dont worry about it.
