d16z6, chiipped p28, power falls off at 7000 rpm
I have just chipped my ecu and raised the rev limiter planning on revving it to about 8000. my issue is that when I hit about 7000, the car just looses all power. the guy that burned the chip for me, gave me the explanation that "Just because the rev limiter is higher, doesnt mean its going to make power up there"
I do understand that, but the power shouldnt just fall off like it does. the car with out a doubt slows down in those rpms, and doesnt even maintain the current speed.
I am thinking its because he didnt extend the fuel/timing maps to go up that high, he simply left the stock P28 map, and just raised the limiter.
How can I solve this problem? I have a VFAC hooked up as well if that makes any difference. Do i need to add more fuel up top? less?

Get a real tune. All he did was put a basemap on it. Get rid of the VAFC. I don't know why people still run those archaic devices.

Who put the basemap on it? Does he not do street tunes at least? He raised the rev limiter because you asked him to.
Then start looking for a tuner locally. That's your only option unless you want to risk tuning it yourself, if you have the means to that is.

def do not rev a d series to 8k unless u have a cam and this car is not daily driven to 8k a lot. an n/a d series rev'd to 8k is overkill especially on a stock cam. Honda would have reved higher if they thought it could bring more power reliably but they didn't and the reason u should not go over 7200-7500rpms
Car is not daily driven. Its a slow *** race car. I do a lot of 8th mile drag and I am trying to get the car to stay in 2nd gear untill the end of the track. about 150ft. short of the finish, I am shifting into 3rd and by the time i get it in gear there isnt enough track/power to use 3rd. i think that being in 2nd at 7500-8000 would be quicker than shifting into 3rd and being at 4500.
I drove it to an Autox over the weekend and I drove 90 miles there. I burned a quart of 20w-50. the motor is already in terrible shape and i could care less if it blows up.

Try some valve springs maybe they're floating and hopefully not still in the way when your pistons swing around...
You should try to make better power within your engine's specified redline unless you change internals to accomodate the higher revs. (lighten valve train, better springs, strengthen bottom end).
I've heard of good results with a jackson supercharger on these engines with stock internals. Would probably be an easier mod than the above mentioned mods at a similar pricetag. Although the low end torque would probably be better on a street car. I'd much rather have low end as this is where these cars really suffer.

if u want to not run out of gear why not run a dx transmission not a short ex transmission? then u wont be running out of gear and wont have to raise the rev limiter to do so. it does sound like the motor is in horrible shape. 1st gear in both transmissions is the same the rest of the gears tend to get longer then the ex transmission from there.i had a boost stock z6 myself and the power was good until it hit about 6k on it seems like it started to die off or remain level in power maybe a slight gain but u could hardly feel it.
intake port size, camshaft.. just to name a couple reasons why u probly won't make power stock passed 7k...

The motor is in terrible shape, I am keeping it in untill I have money for my buddy's B20.
Why would I not bother? it gives me a good excuse to get that b20 early. lol

but honestly, you're not going to make much/if any more power at 8k then u will at 7k with a basically stock motor, so i wouldn't throw much money into someone changing ur fuel map a little bit just so u can rev to 8k
