Another Hesitation Problem
92 Civic LX with auto and 138k miles. I've been noticing a bog, hesitation, lag, whatever you want to call it when taking off from a stop when the engine is at normal operating temp and AC is on. Outside temp is around 100. Removed and cleaned the EACV. Thought this fixed the problem until I drove in stop and go city traffic and it came back. What seemed strange after getting out of the traffic and driving non stop for a while the problem seemed to go away when I came to a stop. Temp related? Coolant level is fine. Starts right up in the morning, idles fine. Still gets great mpg. The only code I'm getting is a 17 that occurred during the winter and I will deal with later. The engine is stock.
You need to fix the VSS code. That's almost surely contributing to the problem.
Also check whether the condenser fan runs when the A/C is on. If not, that will greatly increase engine load from the A/C system.
Also consider doing a tune up -- plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ignition timing.

Thanks, fans are running. Did replace the spark plugs. Will do the others. The code 17 only occurred during the winter and the speedometer would intermittently not work and the transmission would not shift into OD. Seemed like once everything warmed up the speedo and trans were fine. Stopping and restarting the engine would reset the check engine lamp. But I will look into it.

I have the same problem(ish). In the winter the speedo needle won't even lift until about 30 minutes of driving. Even then its about 20mph off. During the summer it is much more responsive but again, way off.
I'm lucky and have gps. Gonna try the speed sensor and see if that works
