What is this noise at high rpm?
Recently I posted saying that my 3rd gear grinds at high rpm. Someone said it was probably the third gear synchro going out and was common on these transmissions. Anyway, now I am getting a terrible noise, (kind of like a high rattle, or a clicking) but only at high rpm. My tach is not working but I would guess around 3500 rpm it starts and goes till I shift. Its fine in neutral, with the clutch in or at lower rpm. Is this still transmission related and just getting worse? And this may just be me over reacting, but I swear my car feels slower! Dont want to take it past 3000 with this noise though, it is really bothering me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Forgot to mention I am getting a loud clicking kind of like cv joints when I make turns. These started at the same time so I am guessing this is transmission/axle related maybe? Both just started at the same time, it has not been gradual.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
my tranny had a major mess up, only it was the speedometer that messed up not the tach. i would think that you might have a broken axle. are you leaking any fluid? get under the car and look for leaking fluid around your axle seals.
Looks like we were all wrong, it was rod knock
. Motors pretty much shot, I guess I need to pull it apart and rebuild it, or I may just not even worry about it. I can drive my spare truck for a while. Even if I rebuilt my engine, Ive still got tons of cosmetic issues to worry about. Its very depressing. I dont know if that car is worth much more money, even though I think it has great potential. Although the supra pistons/b16 rods sound like a pretty tempting rebuild! What a sad sad day.

Sorry to hear about that.
Good Luck on rebuilding that ****!
BTW: I think it's worth looking into buying another block, if you can find a good deal it might be cheaper and easier than rebuilding it... Just a thought.

Thats what I have, the z6. I would actually like to rebuild that to handle about a 125 shot of nitrous, using the b16 rods and supra pistons, and upgraded injectors/fuel management. But I have a few plans I would like to entertain, I just need to drive my old truck for a while as I save money and plan what I am going to do.

They are older model supra pistons from thailand. they are the same size as the d16 pistons, and the guy that sells them sells the pistons already attached to the b16 rods. The only mod that is need is to notch the block about 4mm. If you search under supra pistons I think you should be able to find them, it was in the forced induction forum.
