Spacer behind lower timing gear?
I'm putting together my built motor and I guess I should have taken a picture of this while taking it apart.
Its a b16a2 block that I'm running obd1 so I won't be using the CKF sensor, but I'm forced to use the gear because I sold my b17 block and sadly sent this off with it.
Anyway, is this spacer suppose to go behind the lower timing gear? I'm pretty sure it is but I wanted to make sure.
Here is a picture of what I'm taking about, its to the left of the gear in my hand.

Ron you are my hero.
However are you sure I need two for a a2? My gear has the part for a CKF sensor, the picture you posted looks like its for a obd1 motor or older.

After looking at that diagram again I question if the a2 takes 2. The large plate on the timing gear for the ckf pickup would be a timing belt guide itself. It would also explain why I only have one, since I bagged and labeled everything during my build.
Despite your reluctance to believe the truth, my D16Y7 and D16Y8, as well as your B16a2, require TWO guide plates not one. Don't make the mistake of installing only one. It's not pretty.

It's not that I don't believe the truth but putting a guide behind the cog would be completely hidden and pretty much just be a washer.
Look at the picture I posted and youll see the backside of the gear is larger than the guide. And the gear in the picture you posted looks like a obd1 or older that DON'T use a ckf sensor

Well sir, that's a very good point. It appears that your crank gear is the correct one. Go to the Majestic Honda site and verify yourself. The Majestic Honda site diagram also gives the impression that only one guide plate is needed for the B16a2, while the Civic service manual disagrees:

You may want to call or e-mail Majestic Honda to solve this conundrum.

Ah very good I thought I was going crazy. That diagram from majestic surely helped because I was about to put the cog on backwards.
BTW where do you get all the lovely service diagrams from?

I'm using the same lower gear on my B18C5 build and only have one guide plate... So how does the cog gear go on, as it is shown in the diagram with the CKF Pickup facing out towards the crank pulley?
I can't explain the discrepancy between the B16a2 diagrams I posted from the USDM Civic service manual and the Majestic Honda site. Both are reliable sources. Maybe others can chime in.
After double checking, the cog goes on with the CKF part on the inside, towards the block.
