Default B16A2 Crankshaft timing gear question

Converted an OBD1 motor to my OBDII motor and had to swap the front cover/oil pump off my old motor. my question is to how the new crank sensor and timing gear mount up. It seemed easy when I installed it to put it on the way I remembered pulling it off with the Crank position gear mounted flush aginst the block.... Then I saw this picture in the parts book...

Which would appear to make it go on the other way. I can't see how it could work that way?
Next question. Since the timing gear i pulled off this motor had the Key way molded into the gear (OBDI gear) I didn't pay to much attention to the key and used a Crank pulley key for the new gear when installing it... that doesn't feel right and it had the ever so slightest amount of play (really small amount) and I can't find a part number for the propper key. Can anyone help me there?

Also... I'm looking for a wiring diagram to show me what plugs into what on the engine. I didn't inspect carefully when I pulled the wiring harness off the old motor and now I'm left with lots of plugs that could go in lots of different places. Can't find anything in the service manual to help show what plugs where.

Thank you in advance.
