The only benefit I would see using aluminum as a down pipe would be for the weight factor, but a up pipe is so short it wouldn't in my opinion justify the price difference from stainless steel.

Not sure where you are getting your bends from but they are pretty much the same price from AL to SS.

Only issue I had on AL downpipe was the abuse from the 2-step.

The pipe on there now is very short...the wideband doesnt read right so iam just gonna make a longer pipe..... ive actuall got some 14g alum bends so it should work out good. I would go down with the exhaust but its impossible with my setup...

The aluminum will start to sag at the bends from the heat if its not suppurted.

Someone told me at some point over the years that a steel downpipe will help keep heat in the turbine longer instead of the aluminum helping to draw the heat away.

In my head it seems to hold true but like using a watercooled WG on a drag car, it just seems silly to do something expecting HP results after a burnout and WOT lol

i had a alum .120 wall up pipe, ended up the vband flange split from heat and vibes, also need to think that the wideband heater circuit is affected by the heat sink of a alum downpipe u have...i saw no difference but something to think about when making desision

By the time you make it .120 wall, is there really any weight savings to be had?

The best exhaust on a turbo setup is the shortest possible exhaust.

You can see when your motor blows. I fire slotted 2 heads last year and my up pipe helped to keep me from putting a large length of water on the track.

Totally agree with you guys there wouldn't be a up side to an AL up pipe, and like I said before the price difference from ss would be much higher when you factor in the thickness. Also the 02 bung would prob get a beating from taking the wide band in and out for tuning.

You also have to worry about the scrap man trying to scrap it. They love themselves some aluminum pipe
