welding a straight pipe or or use a flex pipe???
Should I just have a straight pipe clamped or welded in place of my cat to the DP or get a flex pipe. Some pro's and cons would be great! What is the real point of having the flex pipe?
TIA!
TIA!

exactly. If you go with a test pipe, you have to have a flex pipe welded in to the dp.
WHat I think you're referring to is flexible exhaust piping not flex pipe. They are two different things.
I don't think the cons of a flexible exhaust piping in place of a test pipe or cat is that big of a deal. You might have to replace it ounce in a while, but it's cheap and easy to do. If you use good clamps, it should make for a leak free setup.

This is what I was speaking of. So It would be best to get the flex pipe and connect it from teh DP to the exhaust?
Would that flexible exhaust piping come in 2.5" so I could use it for a temporary IC pipe? Does it bend enough to make some 45* bends?

It comes in 2.5" (that's what I have). You would put that inline with your exhaust, yes sir. Right after the downpipe.
Secondly, you will NOT get this stuff to do a 45* bend. Use that other junk I posted a pic of to do your jerry rigged IC piping if you're that hard up for $$$$.

you read me wrong. lol. I was asking if the FLEXIBLE exhaust pipe can make the 45* bend. haha I know a flex pipe wont. Thanks for the answer though.
I found a place that will custom make a flex pipe for me that has 2.5" on one side and 3" on the other. they didnt give me a quote though
So are there any pros or cons of welding a straight pipe from DP to exhaust other than the stress on welds?

Actually, i'm using that kind of flex pipe at the moment.. to tell ya the truth, it does the job for me perfectly.. and it was DEFINATELY alot cheaper than those fancy flex pipes.. Just make sure you get it in Stainless Steel so it doesn't Rust/corrode up on ya..
I"ve made 3-4 DP's w/ that kind of flex pipe and i'm happy w/ it for what its purpose is..
Here's one I made last yr for my turbo GSR..
Dont care about the looks much since its gonna get dirty and nasty anyway from the road grime and heat cycles..:

I have a question...I need a flex pipe for my downpipe, however, my downpipe is 2.5" and my exhaust is 3". All the flex pipes i found online are only one size. Any idea where to get them with different size on each side?
Here is what my builder did to fix the 2.5" to 3" exhaust conversion.
2.5" downpipe --> Flowmaster 2.5"-3" reducer (turned backwards) --> 3" flexpipe

I might have to do. However, I dont' know if the muffler shops around me can be able to do that or not. I kinda live in the middle of no where. So if they can't, any idea where to get a flex pipe that has 2 differnet sizes on each side?
