Standalone ECU and OEM Dash sensors/outputs
Hey guys
I have installed a Gotech ecu in my car (full standalone engine maanagement ecu)
Now i want to tidy up the wiring.
My question is, dash display items like, speed and water temp and oil pressure.
do these signals go through the oem ecu to the dash cluster or are they straight to the dash cluster?
Many thanks

Hey there,
Speed actually comes off the VSS sensor off the transmission then it goes to the ecu. That same wire comes off the vss/ecu and goes directly to dash. The gauge cluster see's the same signal as the ECU.
Water temp is interesting, the water temp has two sensors.
ECT goes directly to the ecu.
The other sensor is a single wire sensor that is on the head and goes directly to the dash cluster.
Oil pressure is just a switch when it see's oil pressure the circuit is broken, when pressure does not exist it is closed and grounded. This is why you see the oil pressure light come on when you put the key in your car before you start it.
Most everything on the dash is negatively controlled.. IE when you ground a pin the light gets activated.
Good luck.

thanks for the help there.
So if i trace the VSS signal wire back to the ecu and link it to the vss input on the dash the speedometer will work?
That is my main concern at the moment

Yes it should.
If you have a multimeter you should be getting +12v pulses when the front wheels rotate from that signal. its a simple square wave.
