MadCoder Del Sol Build Thread (no 56k... if they even exist anymore)
Hi All!
So here goes my 1st build and build thread.
My automotive background: Almost none
I've helped change out an intake on a 318 and some break pads and changed oil maybe twice, oh and mostly destroyed a 99 ford escort trying to hook it up lol (i'll post pics soon). I know, it's weak. That's why I wanted to change that by building the Del Sol.
Went from the 99 Escort to a 99 911 C2 Cab, which I loved to drive but not to own.
I purchased the Sol a few months ago solely for a project car/hobby to get some tech skills hopefully. So it's currently just a street car but may track it in the future for fun.
Here's stock images

Currently looking to get a GSR swap then turbo in the future.

Have the interior gutted

Got new carpet

Setup a mock interior in the garage

Had a small leak/moisture problem on the driver side so I used some dielectric grease on the weatherstripping.

Got some vinyl to *attempt* to wrap the interior trim.

Some notes on this.
- Used some DAP contact cement GEL which seems to melt the vinyl some. Which the back of the can said it wasn't for vinyl but some turds on a few upholstery forums said it would work and it really didn't.
Going to order some Dap Landau HHR and try again.
- I'll give props to upholstery guys, this is a tough job.
I pretty much got glue on everything including the dog and the finish surface.
Wife made a Type-R knock off shift boot with some of the extra vinyl.

And here's a snap of my ghetto paint booth lol

Thanks for checking out my build!
More to come!
Jon

Dude I know this thread was dead but I want to see what happened next. It's a better love story than twilight.
Plus I just got a 93 del sol si and want to do the interior.

I have to fix a leak in the cabin and trunk before I put the interior back in.
But before that I'm putting in the GSR swap I've been staring at in my garage now for over 2 months
I'm subbed so will wait. Does it really take that long to swap orjust no time to work on it?
Plus, did the dielectric grease fix the leaks on the weatherstripping? Mine leaks near the front seam on the sides toward the windshield

The dielectric grease didn't seem to do squat but I never found where the actual leak is so it might still work for you and it's only like $3 so worth a shot IMO.

Once I can get my puter to start recognizing my phone I'll post more pics.
Nice ride btw.

New pics... finally...
Not sure how to get text in between the pics on this since they're attachments so I'll list them this way
#1) My first time using Bondo to shave the antenna hole... 10lbs of Bondo should be enough for the 1st coat.
#2-5) Pics of new swap, just waiting to go in
#6) New carpet is in... time to put everything else back together now.
#7) Rusty dubs...
#8) Trunk leak... Boooooo!
#9-10) More carpet images... One thing to note.. I got the extra sound deadening stuff on the bottom of the new carpet which made is super thick and hard to work with.
Hope to have more up soon....
