Default Valve Lash adjustment help!

on the sticker under the hood it says valve lash IN 0.26 ± 0.02mm EX 0.30 ± 0.02mm

on my feeler gauge set from what i think is 0.02 it says .002 and under it .051 and under that is mm and its really thin one of the last gauges in the set almos tthinest ... and the other is twoards the thicker at the end says .020 and under it .508 and under that mm so im confused as hell ....which feeler gauge is the sticker asking for on my f22b2 non vtec and do i have the right one in my set?

also what is even more confusing in the book(chiltons) it says on one page:
valve lash adjustment specifications:
intake: 0.26mm (0.010 in.)±0.02mm (0.0008in.)
exhaust: 0.30mm (0.012in.)±0.02mm (0.0008in.)
and on the next page engine tune up specifications:
In:0.009-0.011
Ex:0.011-0.013

idk why it has different specifications or which is the correct/better ones ... but im confused on how to read it or look for the right ones on my feeler gauge set...

Yes in the FAQ there is a write up.

Metric and inches.....

If you have a .010 and a .012 (inch), you are good to go. If not you may have to take two "feelers" on your set together to get the proper thickness (a .007 and a .003).

Good luck

Correct spec is .010" intake side and .012" on exhaust side.

.010 for the intake, .012 for the exhaust-notice that is right in the middle of the spec's. This pic is from the service manual-sect 3 page 2.

All Data even listed them.

There you go:

In:0.009-0.011
Ex:0.011-0.013
.010" on intake side and .012" on exhaust. Just gotta use your brain.

Honestly, I usually shoot for the tighter end of the clearances.
0.009" Int and 0.011" Exh. (F#@k'n imperial units :shakeshead: ) If there are any issues upon start up, I will back it off the 0.001". However, I haven't had any issues up to this stage in the game. :knocks on wood:

No. Valve lash has nothing to do with compression.

Too tight and the valves may not close all the way.....bad thing. Too loose and the get noisy and some performance impact.

Got around to the AC yet?

Good luck my friend.

Good deal on the ac....know what you mean by funds, had to borrow from the Chevelle fund/savings this week, which means I'm going to have to put off the "next" motor until next year

just to make sure when your on a specific cylinder all but that specific cyl's valves should be closed right? example when im on cyl 4 , cyl 3 intake valves have play and cyl 2 exhaust also ... shouldntthey be closed have no play?!?! i used .009intake and .011 exhaust since they were set like that from when i went to honda and they did it ... only a few valves were off a bit so i made them the same ... also when im on cyl 2 , cyl 1 ex valves play and cyl 4 in valves play .... is it supposed to be like that?? im not sure .... they are all tightend to the exact feel of what they should be so ...?!?!
and when im on cyl 1 , cyl 3 ex play and cyl 2 in .... so basicly what ever cyl im on those 4 valves play but then 2 from 2 diff valves also play ... is that how it should be?

ok so i checked them all last time i got it done was by honda ... but they charge too much so ... they did .009 intake and .011 exhaust so i just went by that cuz i wasnt gonna loosen them .... and only a few were off a bit .. just got it so the feeler gauge drags a bit and the same as the other valve in that specific cyl so i matched them up ... so i put everything back and i dont notice a difference still ticks and knocks ... so i wasnt gonna tighten them any harder .... now im below mininum oil so ... idk if that would make much a difference but, also my friend told me it might be the oil pump not oiling them up right ... idk ik last time i got a valve adjustment at honda it sounded perfect ... but if they are already at exact tightening idk ....?!?!!?!
