Default Can someone explain the steps or the purpose for getting a car Bar'd?

I'm sure this has been ask multiple times, and I did a search but came up empty handed. So after some google searching there are a number of articles on Honda-tech in regards having a car Bar'd/reffed, which offer some insight as to what engines and what not can be put into a particular chassis. From what I've read you can be ticketed if a cop pulls you over and finds out the engine is a B18c5 and not a D16. So there's that which the bar sticker would take care of well manybe not for a c5 but you get my point.

So considering you don't get pulled over the Bar tag is mainly for smog purposes? If so couldn't you just pay a shop to pass you? I'm thinking about putting a k20 in a 99-00 Civic DX just wondering what the purpose (benefit) of having the car Bar'd would be?

I've been pulled over in the past and but never had the cop check my car, or engine just wanted to see my registration and insurance then wrote me a ticket. If the interior is stripped and you have a full on rollcage I can see them having a reason to search but otherwise is it common? Having the car Bar'd makes sense not having to deal with the hassles, but how hard is it and would it even be possible.

Also where would I go on here for more info?

I don't know too much technical info, but it basically makes your swapped car street legal. I think it's mainly in california with strict smog laws. You need to go and prove that you did a legit swap with all the right parts (engine, harness, ECU, cat, exhaust, etc) and if they pass you, than you get a sticker and you are able get it legally smogged and registered. Plus, it totally increases your chance of selling your swapped car in CA if it's BAR'd. I'm sure there's a lot more to it but that's essentially it.

Plus, I think if you were to get pulled over and they realize you have a K20 and no BAR, they could probably fine you up the ***. If you live in CA, it's worth it. I just legitimizes the swap.

pretty much you take your car to the bearau of automotive repair
you have to have EVERY emission device that motor has
have to pass visual inspection, you have to have corresponding ecu
its gonna be very hard to BAR your k20 in your ek
ive only heard of one guy doing it and he had to even switch out the gas tank
look into a b18c5 usdm type r motor,
i heard you cant BAR a jdm motor anymore idk if thats still true if someone knows please
clarify cause i just dropped my b16 in and thatd be super tight
they give you a little sticker on the inside of your door i believe or somewhere on the car that says the motor thats in their and the emission devices & etc
only motor ive heard you cant BAR is a b20 & i coulda sworn i saw a BAR sticker with b20 on it

benefits are cops cant dick you for having a swapped motor
no ref ticket = less money you spend, & that chassis can forever have whatever the sticker says, from what ive heard cops leave you alone as soon as they see that BAR sticker
