Icon2 '08 Si wai problem

Hey i have a 2008 civic si 4door with about 26,000 km on it. I've installed a warm air intake on the car and have run into a few problems. This is not my first install so teh setup isn't an issue. The intake is made by Ractive. I know its not a great brand but it shouldn't be the issue.

1st of all ti was throwing a code. the maf was the issue. honda replaced one thinking it was that. however it has resurfaced. One of the guys at honda told me of an old problem where the mount for the maf was a little too high so it wasn't getting a proper reading and it'd throw a code. I have since ground the mount down and do not currently have a code. It might have solved the problem but it took some time last time for the light to come on. I'll know in a day or two.

Second problem is i get an extreme amount of lag when launched from a dead stop.. or if i try to pull from under 3000 rpm. Its not even a lag its more like a big jerk. It'll sound like its bogged out and then jerk into life.. it is very noticible tho and friends of mine with the same car haven't had the problem.

Any ideas on what could cause this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

when you mean a wai are you talking about a short ram air intake?

Yeah I am going to guess its SRI, short ram intake, or CAI, for cold air intake,

but its funny warm air intake, is pretty much what a short ram intake is, lol

but your problem is the MAF sensor is made to read the air volume in 3 parts, and its getting a retarded reading with your aftermarket intake. Giving you possibly errors and bog, or buck when you try to accelerate.

yes sorry warm air intake/ short ram. is what i meant... so essentially all i can do is get a different intake?? its been three days and its not throwing a code.. still have the bogging and bucking problem at low rpm tho..

its one of those things that might be fine for a week or month then just pop up. To help with that bucking and bogging did you reset the ecu and let it idle for 5-10 mins? (pulling fuse and/or taking power away)

But yeah different intakes have different feel. But to be honest, nothing will do better than the stock one IMHO if you are using the stock tune and stock MAF sensor, just for the fact the way it reads.

Honestly this is really weird!

Have you tried putting back the original intake to see if the code still comes on?

not really wierd other vehicles have huge problems with cheap junk aftermarket intakes mazda's, nissan's, etc etc the housing and the way the air hits the sensor etc etc put a GOOD intake on the car and yous hould be good to go, size, shape, air straightener all needs to be taken into account thats why you don't just buy a bend and throw it in in most cars with mass air sensors, they are a bit more sensitive.
