Anyone have experience painting their alternator?
I'm in the middle of finishing up my project. I've been cleaning up my engine bay. I cleaned up the trans case (damn near polished it....long story, don't ask) and I'm painting my engine block with some VHT engine paint. The housing on the alternator looks rough. It's a factory Denso unit and works well. I'd just like to clean it up while it's off, and some VHT Nu-Cast would definitely do that...make it look better and make it easier to clean up, etc.
I'm hesitant to paint it b/c it's going to be difficult to mask off the openings that expose the copper coils. I have no idea how to pull the case apart. It seems to be sealed up (which I'm hesitant to break).
Ideas? Suggestions?

The alt. will come apart, something like this... http://www.scribd.com/doc/52491327/ALTERNADOR-DENSO 94
Yeah...I pulled the regulator, etc off the back of the alt & pulled those 4 nuts holding the case together. The 2 case halves won't come apart. They'll rotate just a bit, but won't come apart.
