00 SiR with factory B16, want b20 non vtec
For simplicity sake and the fact that i need to have my head rebuilt before I add the Vtec to it.
1. am i able to put a b20b/z engine into my EK with the current wiring harness? (with no codes)
2. what ECU would work best with the B20b/z engine and the stock obd2b harness (again, no codes)
thanks,
Matt

you would want the ecu to match the motor . can't run you current ecu as it will be looking for the vtec solnoid pressure sensor. if you get a jdm motor you will have to do something with the crank flux sensor if you want to run a north american ecu . you might want to go with a jumper harness for a obd1 ecu as the look for a lot less sensors .
Easy swap, and faster than a B16A, that is for sure.
Use any year B20Z, it will plug into all of your stock harness, leaving a couple plugs unused.
As mentioned, you need an ecu swap too, there are a few options-
- any usdm 99-01 crv ecu (it doesn't matter if it comes from an auto crv either, as the tranny is controlled by a separate ecu)
- any 99-01 jdm crv or orthia B20 ecu, and it's true, the jdm ecu does not look for the fluctuation sensor
- do an obdI conversion with a jumper harness and chipped ecu, many options

an automatic will be in limp mode without the TCM that is attached to b series motors. JDM ecu would be the best option, but internally, it is an obd1 ecu. no data connection for diagnostic.
