i was wanting to install a push button start, to completely bypass the whole having to use a key thing, no more lost keys ! ive seen the ones where you still have to use the key and then push the button to start, can't you run a switch to the ignition, then push the button instead? if anyone know of a write up or has anyone else done this? thanks for the guidance and help..

ive done this but in collaboration with a security key. but you cant just make it as simple as a "push button start", you need a switch to switch on 2 relays to keep the power and acc power closed and functional. then u add the pushbutton start to a button. but for security purposes id wire it to the relay for the acc/main power so that someone just cant push it. but eh if they do find it and dont switch on the car first the starters just going to crank for nothin and end up killin the battery. and turbo82 is right ur just going to make it easier for someone to steal. i wired this kinda thing up in my friends 64 chevrolet malibu (lol where u gona find a ignition switch for that cheap these days) but i did it to a electronic key . he plugs the key in and the car energizes and the starter comes online. he pushes a button next and the car cranks and starts up. and when hes ready to leave the car he yanks out the key and all the electrical power dies out

 

oh and sorry for the double post but i just thought of something. it cant be a standard push button start. unless you rip out the ignition key sleeve (metal bracket that holds the ignition key cylinder in place, also is the part that locks the steering column...)

 

i was going to hide the switches and my ignition switch is already ripped ou t anyway due to the p.o. so i figured why not just do that..anyone got a wiring diagram and some instructions? i cant find alot of info on it really.

 

My friend has an s2k button wired up to his CRX but he still uses the key. I, however, have the ignition in my ek wired to two switches and obviously the button but none of that receives power until you enter the six digit pin code. I still have my ignition cylinder in there so the wheel still locks (until I get my removable steering wheel). The only downside to this setup as far as I'm concerned is that I constantly forget to put the key in to unlock my steering wheel/take the key out when I'm done driving. Ignition Keypad Lockout

You could wire up a emote entry/alarm so that the alarm would have to be off or the doors unlocked before the start button would work. Just using the remote entry/alarm in place of the key.

 

You can wire up the push button start direct to the starter. But have a hidden flip switch so it wont activate unless that switch is on.

 

the alarm just sounds too difficult..just need to know how and where to wire just two switches and a push button thanks for all the great ideas they sound like a future project lol

 

Have you ever seen those tools/gizmo that wires direct to a starter. Its a mechanics tool that is used so they can start the car even while outside the car. Its essentially like that, where you wire up the button to the starter and power. But put a break in the power line so the hidden switch is like an on/off switch for that push start button. It isnt too hard to do.
