Hi everyone! New here. I've actually had three civics before my current stock 2010 EX-L, without an issue... I now have a pretty big one (at no fault to Honda).

My apartment was robbed three weeks ago, and the thieves stole my spare and valet keys, leaving me with only the key I had on me at the time of the robbery. I had the key reprogrammed and decided to pass on getting a new spare until I had some extra cash. Unfortunately, I lost the one key last week at work and am unable to find it.

My car has been stuck in a low-clearance parking garage for a week now (I have to get the car in neutral and roll/steer it out onto the street to tow it to the dealer). The dealer cut me a new key to get in and do this, and the key did get me into the car, but does not allow me to do anything to the ignition. They believe it should, and can't give me an answer why.

Does anyone have general advice? Is it possible for a mechanic to come out and start the car without a key? My 30th birthday is Wednesday and it would be sweet to have a car back.

 

Honda technician could come out to your house and program new keys to get your car started (I'm positive, I've done it many times). Now I dont know if they will charge you extra but Yes, Honda technician can come out to you. And doing this, this will cancel out every other keys you had before. Which is good since you got robbed couple weeks ago ( sorry to hear that ).
They will ask your VIN number to get PCM code and new key. This is normal so don't feel suspicious. Good LUCK! and happy early Birthday!

 

The old keys might not start the car, but they can still manually get INTO the car.

Thanks, guys. The one dealer I'm working with said no to coming out. The difficult part of this is that the car is in a parking garage in the city with a 6'4 clearance. Doubt any tow truck is getting in, so I have to get the car out!

This whole experience has really been bad. Would it be possible to have a mechanic come from another shop and hotwire the car?

 

You should be able to insert the key into a slot next to the shifter to manually shift it to neutral. You'll need a small flathead screwdriver or knife to pop the piece out. Shift to neutral and move it out of the garage to be towed.

 

I'll try that slot, but will the car steer and brake?

 

You can start the car with keys that are not programmed. It's able to start the car temporary so you can drive it to the dealership to get it programmed.

you need...
*Immobilizer and Transmitter Master Key Blank
(Civic EX/LX/SiHybrid, CR-V)

*Key code for the vehicle

*MATRIX H or Tri-Code H.S. Key Cutting Machine

*Immobilizer Brake Code

Call your local Honda parts department to get these info.

Btw, I'm so disappointed that they are not coming out to you to do this. F them. I've done it many times and it only takes less than 5 min.

I have two friends who are brothers and one is a mechanic, one uses any key he has available to him, the other uses a screwdriver. I know they had to break something in the steering column in order to do it though.

The immobilizer system is pretty damn tricky.

Good against thieves, but very annoying if you lose a key.

 

Thank you, community, for your help. I was able to get the brake codes and key blank for the vehicle. Going to attempt to try it in two hours, so keep your fingers crossed. If anyone's ever done this, feel free to forward me your tips.

And, for the record, Rt. 22 Honda in Hillside, NJ is the best dealer around! They are the only ones that really helped me with this.

 

Update: Brake Code Worked PERFECTLY! Car is out and programmed.

Read earlier posts. When you get your keys cut, honda parts department should have good info how to do it. If not, technicians. I hope no one has to go thru this
