new key won't start my car
I just purchased a key for my 2007 honda accord on ebay and today I took it to the dealer to get cut and know I went to try and it goes in find but it doesn't turn on the car, what could it be and the dealer did not even program it to open or lock my doors. What should I do? Thanks

Most new cars have a hidden computer chip in the keys. They will need to be programmed. I'm surprised that they didn't do that for you, or ask you about it. Usually they ask for your VIN and proof of ownership and then re-cut, and program it.

So you took your car to the dealer to get a key cut and after getting it cut, you didn't walk back inside to tell them it didn't work?
I'm guessing you got it cut at a gas station or something.

Having the key cut and programmed are two different things. The parts department has nothing to do with that. You would have to gone trough service to have the key programmed.

If you want a key cut and programmed, go to ace. Its about $50 and they test it to make sure it works. Unless you want the special key with the lock and unlock buttons on it.

Re: new key won't start my car
In my brief experience with the Honda key. I think there are two programmings for the remote key. One is the program for the chip, and for this you need to attach to a computer to syncronize or program the chip to the code on your car. You have to go to a dealer or locksmith to do it.
The second programming is for the remote like the open door, trunk,... this you can do your self.
I found that Walmart programs and cuts keys for $50 but this is the basic key with no remote and they wont accept outside keys.

Hopefully your Key has a V on the shank like in the attached photo. Some keys are similiar in shape and size, but don't have the capability to work with the immobilizer system.
You can reprogram the key yourself. There is a series of key turns, and lock unlock commands that you can do. The complete procedure can be accessed with a subscription to ALLDATAdiy.com. It is much cheaper than the dealer.
