Opinion on aftermarket re-ring project
Hey guys,
I have a d16z6 and it said 75k on the cluster of the car I pulled it from but am not sure if I should trust it. So I am rebuilding it. Everything looks great inside of the engine but I figured that I have it torn down, I might as well do a re-ring kit. I do not trust the master over haul kits online since they do not state what companies make what.
I then looked at majestic honda's prices and 27 bux for piston rings for 1 piston. That is a little out of my budget.
I am just going to do a stock engine rebuild. Standard piston rings and bearings. I have no fear in buying a felpro gasket set. I have rebuilt many engines with them and have awesome luck. Being a honda, I do not have a lot of experience with rebuilding them.
I have heard that sealed power is good and they make a rering kit for this engine but I have never used their products.
Who do you suggest for thrust washers, bearings, and rings?
I don't mind making my own kit!

Ok guys I used the plastigage tonight...
Here is what I got.

Cylinder 4
Bearing color Yellow
The plastigage smudge was close to 1/64" narrower than .0015
Cylinder 3
Bearing color Green
The plastigage smudge was close to 1/64" narrower than .0015
Cylinder 2
Bearing color Green
The plastigage smudge was close to 1/64" wider than .0015
Cylinder 1
Bearing color Green
The plastigage smudge was close to 1/64" wider than .0015
Main bearings from left to right (cylinder 4 is on the left)
Main bearing 5
Bearing Color Brown
The plastigage smudge was close to 1/64" narrower than .0015
Main bearing 4
