I have the HKS sport and it's super quiet. It's not very big, it's about 2 inches. Looks and sounds awesome though.

Mugen twin loop comes to mind. Also installing a high flow resonator will help.

Resonator will get rid of the 'bees in a can' sound and help towards a nice clean tone.
The longer the resonator the better.
You would definitely want this even with a new muffler.

Do you have a catalytic converter?
If not then you can add a cherry-bomb/glass-pack and it will help muffle and clean up the tone a lot as well.

I'll second the cherry bomb/glass pack idea. They do work well as resonators.

Yep, Hi flow cat and a cherry bomb as a resonator along with the muffler and you should be set.

I would go for a 12"~16" resonator and see how you like it. I don't think less than 12" will give you very good results.

Out of the cat, muffler, and resonator - the resonator is least restrictive to your exhaust flow so if it works for you then job well done!

I ran a hollowed out cat and an old school Thermal muffler (probably the loudest muffler known to mankind).
After a couple exhaust tickets I added a 16" Thermal R&D resonator and, yet still loud, the noise cleaned up so much from a raspy mess into a nice clean hum.
This fit in the exhaust tunnel behind the shifter location.
Still loud, but cops didn't bother me any more.

If you feel the sound is too loud after the resonator then a different muffler or a glass-pack would be the options. If you need the catalytic converter for smog then you are probably going to be best off with a different muffler.
If you can get away with leaving the catalytic converter off then the exhaust flow less restricted (more power) and the sound will be a little louder, a little deeper, and more distinctive.
You can then fit the glass-pack in the area where the cat normally goes.

I run 2 of the longest "glass-packs" I can, then a "turbo" style muffler, and finally a "resonator" tip/ or turndown. All of this typically 3" (I pretty much only run turbos), and it is louder at idle than part/full throttle. Given the turbo quiets the exhaust down, I do the same on my B-swapped winter beaters, but run 2" instead and same results - quiet as can be.
