I dropped mine on Skunk2 springs on stock shocks for a few months before installing my new ones and they were fine. But at the same time one of my dsm buddies blew one out the day after dropping his.
It depends on the condition of your current setup and how aggressive you want the drop to be.

Stock shocks+Drop=Fail/Blown shocks. If you can't afford to do it right then save up until you can. Also try searching once in a while.
well i dont want to "slam" my car,
i want to lower it aninch or 1 1/2 because i want the gap in between the tire to touch, not go past the tire, i just want it to go away.
i want to use my car as a daily driver but just lower it a little
not a lot, thats why i dont think mine would blow that soon because it wont be slammed

What will blow your shocks is a combination of reduced travel and stiff rates. If you had the softest ground control rates at any height you'll blow your stock shocks. not to mention I doubt your ground controls will mount on stock shocks.
Solution? Quit being cheap and buy a real setup with new shocks and appropriate springs/coils.
Progress CS-II @ $595
Koni Srt. + ground control @ ~$600 (plus lifetime warranty)
or
Koni sport/ground control @ $800 (lifetime warranty)
There really aren't any other valid options below $1000. The warranty itself sells anything koni makes, not to mention years and years of widespread racing use.
