'94 Integra - Weird starting and overheating problem. *VIDEO*
Hey everyone, I am having some weird problems with my car starting and overheating. Below is a video I took today. Here is my description from the YT page:
**About only the first 4 minutes of video is critical. The remaining video is just watching the needle rise **
I recently started having a weird starting and overheating problem. Today I went to check it out some more. The engine was cold before starting, but for some weird reason, the temp needle started rising before the engine was even running! Kill switch was engaged, which is why the engine wouldn't start up. I totally forgot about it at first lol. Anyways, I disengaged the kill switch to start her up and left the video running so you can see the temp needle rising / acting funny. Anyone have an idea what could be wrong? Timing belt, water pump and thermostat were replaced about 5 or 6 months ago by myself. Could I have a bad thermostat or something? I am stumped. I haven't noticed any oil in the coolant or vise versa. I really hope it isn't a blown head gasket.
Also, what could be causing my starter to sound like this? I tested all the spark plugs and they all fire just fine. :stumped:

Thanks!

is your coolant physically hot? touch the upper radiator hose. could just be your coolant temp sensor or something. theres no reason for your coolant to already be that hot unless you drove the car not too long before that
i didn't check the temp of the coolant or upper rad hose before trying to start the car
but before shooting this video, the last time the car was driven was yesterday. so i definitely started the car today cold. whats also weird is that when the car finally did start, the needle shot right back down to "C"!
coolant temp sensor -- i will look into that!

okay so i think the "overheating" problem was due to a bad Engine Coolant Temp (ECT) Gauge Sending unit. I tried using the one from my gf's accord and the temp gauge went back to operating normally!
now i just need to figure out why it sounds funny when i start the engine
any ideas?
