Icon3 Stock Poor Man Type R Turbo Setup

Can someone point me in the right direction for a good stock turbo setup. i Have a Jdm B18c..p72 with a Type R head. and i want to boost it. not really looking to go all out. just try to put close to 300hp if possible? with a budget of 1500-1700 plus the tune. i already have s300j so that saves me alot.. so ideas anyone?

You can piece stuff bit by bit. Your power goal is pretty attainable. Pick up some cheap DSM 450s, an Inline 4 log manifold, smaller turbo (super60?), wastegate & bov. The only main issue will be your tune, intercooler, and installation. The oil drain/return kit is fairly cheap as well. It just depends on who is doing the installation. You can get all your parts for under 1500, tho....

why would you even consider putting a garbage kit on a decent motor. also "kit price" leaves off half the kit. you'll still need a clutch, wideband, boost gauge, fuel pump, injectors and a catch can. that's +1300-1400 right there

basically you'll be in it about $4000 complete if you use new parts of good quality. add $600 or so if you go ballbearing

I wouldn't buy a cheap kit. I'd piece stuff together for what you need. For your low hp output, you don't need a whole lot of stuff. There are a lot of debbie downers on HT. eBay kits have hit 10s, and there are a few guys from HT that use 'em. Do as you wish bud, but we will offer advice in the best way we can, it's your choice to do as you please.

Everytime I see "poor man turbo setup" in the same sentence, it makes no sense whatsoever...lol

If you are poor, you sure ain't going to afford a good running turbo Honda...

Even with Ebay parts, it should be rich man turbo setup, because you will be buying an average of 3-4 kits in a year or so, or at least buy 2-3 kits to combine into one decent running kit Every Ebay kit out there is missing something, or has one good part but a bunch of bad ones.

i think he was referring to a poor man's type r which is a b18c with a b16 head. i never understood why people would do such a combo when a gsr head works the same.

or that an actual jdm itr engine is $2500 to your door and a build with parts you have to source and machine will cost over this

You dont "NEED" a boost guage or a catch can. As for the wideband... are you wanting to tune it yourself? or takin it to a shop?

AFI Ramhorn
Turbonetics 60-1
Precision 1000cc injectors
Charge piping
Tial 50mm BOV
3 inch full race downpipe
Resistor box
Map Sensor
Couplings
Oil feed/return lines
Boost Gauge
Oil Pressure Gauge
big FMIC

That ran me 1500 then i picked up
44mm Tial WG
Dumptube
walboro 255lph Fuel Pump
Misc Fittings

Costed me 510, all new parts

So im almost 2100 in, and i havent even installed my parts and had it tuned yet. I got pretty good deals on everything too, so with decent parts, i dont see anyone boosting under 2k. I picked up a competition 6 puck for dirt cheap a few weeks back too, like isaid, i got lucky, and im over 2100 in.

Just fork the money for a decent setup and be happy with it.

Really depends on what your doing ( NA vs FI ) on what head you would want to use ( assuming you're using OEM honda parts )

well if not knowing if you have a boost spike or any warning that say....a WG vacuum line popped off isn't important to you...okay

as for the catch can, how do you plan on venting the crank case?

a wideband, like the boost gauge is another tool that lets you make sure everything is where it should be. both gauges combined aren't mode than $300

Yeah I know, I was just poking fun..

Poorman + Ebay turbo kit just sounds funny, because it makes it really "poor", both in quality and reliability.

Custom kit pieced up with brand name parts or used brand name parts is a much better route.

If your vacuum line came off your idle would fluctuate drastically and ud know something is wrong

Crankcase you can vent to the atmosphere, catch can isnt necessary for his low HP numbers

Keep in mind im not arguing here, just stating these things for the simple fact that OP wants to stick to his budget
