Hey all, I currently have a 97 Civic ex and I have a problem.. When I first bought the car, sometimes when im idling the cars rps would drop below 1k and the car would shake and sputter like it was about to stall then the rpms would shoot back up and everything was fine. Now recently it did it even lower and a bigger stutter and I noticed even my interior lights dims greatly, what could this be? Just so everyone knows, the car has NEVER stalled on me from this. But it seems its getting worse and I want to sell the car.

Mine did the same thing could be your idle air cantrol valve ( iac ) or your throttle position sensor ( tps ) or a vacuum leak. I would look for leaks first and then change out or clean your sensors. just my thoughts. Mine was the tps.

 

Check to make sure that the spark plug seals on the valve cover care NOT letting oil get in contact with the spark plugs, I had the problem on one of mine and it would idle hella rough and feel like it watned to stall.

All I did was pull the valve cover and replace the v/c gasket as well as the spark plug gaskets and the problemw went away

Do you have a CEL? when was the last time the car had a full tune up?
