i recently got my civic running. has a d16z6 with SRP pistons, Eagle rods, acl bearings. well if i go over 4500 rpms my alrtenator makes a very high pitch wine and my dash board lights get brighter. i have swapped belts thinking the first one i had was too long. it still does it. i have blown the one high beam because of this. alternator has only 40 miles on it. could it have been a bad one from the box. its a remand from the parts store.

i havent had the alt tested yet. is the voltage regulator seperate from the alternator or would i have to replace the whole thing?
pull the alternator, take it to the local parts store and have it tested.
or better yet, take it to an alternator/starter place and have them look at it. They are a lot more knowledgeable than random part store employees.
the voltage regulator is inside the alternator housing, it may be separately replaceable but the cost should be the same as a 'rebuild' or 'remanufactured alt'
