Wtf!? Axle help needed!!! Please Help!
Okay, so about 30 minutes ago i was working on pulling out my axles. everythings going good. And then part of the axle came out of the rubber boot with three little bearings on them and one fell off and the other 2 are just resting on there at the moment. What does this mean? Are my axles still good? What caused this to happen?
Would you please explain? What do you mean pull from the middle part? and i can just slide the bearings back in and put a new boot on it, right?(boot is ripped) And tomorrow im going to work on it again. I still have to take the 32mm axle nut of the end. but it just seemed to pull out so easy, thats what got me. And im going to pry the axles out where in connects to the tranny, thats how i was told to do it.
As for rebuilding it, I have not tried but I have heard it is a pain in the ***. You would have to buy a boot kit first off, then find a tutorial.
you broke it, boot kit or new axle. I would just replace it be careful with axles all you have to do is "pop" them out of the trans using a large flat head or pry bar then slide it out if you are pulling hard enough for that to happen ether axle was done already or you're doing it wrong
It is NOT broken...
you're lucky, that's the easy boot to change.
there are some c-clips holding the tripod type bearing holder in place, you'll have to remove it to install the boot. that's why it's a pain... so much grease, it's just annoying to deal with.
$30 for a new boot VS. $100 for a brand new axle
tough choice really.

if you have to repair it then its broken, autozone, carquest, etc all sell axles around me for like 45 with a core worth it, just learn form your mistake, first thing i tell people doing axles is if you have to use any muscle pulling the axle out, stop and make sure its all the way "popped" out

i wish someone did the core exchange around here. :\
that sucks i can't count how many times me or my buddies have been have been saved by trading in a core for like 60 bucks off, low paying jobs suck
Okay thanks guys. I have a question though, Would it be that hard to repair the axle? i mean the tripod type thing just sits in there with the bearings on it, and then the boot covers it. So what would I really need to repair it? just the rubber boot?
I also agree that it isn't "broken" per say. Happens all the time, just usually the boot isn't already ripped and you can just work it back into place and be fine. But if the boot is ripped and the ***** fall out, like in your case, it just makes it a nastier job. That grease is a PITA. Thats why the sell CV boots seperate. So you don't have to replace the whole axle. If the axle was broken everytime someone did this (a lot), then they wouldn't sell just CV boots.
But I agree, it is much easier just replacing the axle.

Its the inner boot that is ripped. I believe its called the plunge joint? or whatever. Cant i just clean it up and grease it and put a new boot over it? Im trying to spend as less money as possible if that helps.
