ok, this project is beginning to be one big headache. it's one complication after another. i'm sure the ones that have taken on a project like this know what i'm talking about. nothing is going smoothly.
but, anyways does anyone know how to remove the axle from the tranny without damaging the axle or tranny? i tried a small crowbar but i'm afraid of damaging either the tranny or axles. any advice? thanks

Use s large crowbar for the trannyside. Just keep prying it lose, it will break out after awhile. Don't give up cause it takes awhile and will show no sign of giving in until it all of a sudden comes out. There are 2 ways to take out the other side. One is to remove the entire axle/intermediate as one piece. Or you can use a small sledge hammer and pound away on the inside of the the axle torwards the outside of the car while holding the axle pulling outwards.
good luck.
I had to pull three engines/axles out in the past month
no fun

thanks for the info guys. good advice akira-r. this is beginning to be a bitch. i'm planning to paint my car in december and this is what i have to look forward to again. wish i had the money now so i wouldn't have to go through this **** again.
questions: would the crowbar damage the axle in any way? if i removed the intermediate shaft as a whole or seperately, do i use the same method of removal as the tranny side? thanks a lot. your advice is much appreciated.

The crowbar won't damage the axle. You'll be able to see the points where you can pry it loose.
And once you do it once, it will all make sense the next times you do it and will be less of a hassle.
There is no intermediate shaft on the tranny side. The best way to attack is to use a prybar from the top of the engine.
good luck.

yeah, i know that the intermediate shaft is on the driver's side. do i use a crowbar as well for that shaft?
That shaft usually comes out pretty easy if you take the full intermediate out.
If you just take the halfshaft out, then use a small sledge to hammer the coupling.

FUUUUUUUUUCK! i'm having trouble with both axles. does it matter how the shaft hangs? what i did was support the outboard of the shaft by hooking a coat hanger that i straightened out and hung it for on the spring coil for support so there wouldn't be too much stress on the inboard. it angles slightly towards the shock while hanging. would this be the cause of the big headache i'm having now by not being able to remove the axle?
and another thing, if i turn the axle on the passenger side and the axle the driver's side turns as well, does that mean i have an lsd?
i tried a small crowbar and a large screwdriver and still no luck. NEED HELP PLS.

Try to turn the axle slightly while pulling on it. It should pop out. I know it sounds easier than it is, but they aren't all that tough.
I took out the driver's side axle first, then the intermediate shaft. That worked best for me.
Te biggest problem I had was getting the passenger's side axle back into the tranny.
Also, 2 people seem to work best...one pulling on the axle and the other underneath the car twisting the axle.

How long did it taken everyone to drop in their swaps? a day... a few hours?? This is from the time you cranked the first wrench to startup
About 14 hours...but that factors in many problems we had like:
- coolant leaks after the motor was together
- putting the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate on the motor
- attaching the tranny
- breaks
But when it started, it ran very well.
