04 civic sounds like ecu is trying to kill the motor
i got the civic from a buddy that blew the motor. i bought a motor from my step dad( he works at a junk yard). then he and i put the motor in. the care he pulled it from had 71000 miles on it. so we got the motor in and it fired right up. the civic ran great no knocks or nothing for 2 months... then i drive it to work one day and i got it there with no problems but as soon as i start it up to leave work its like the ecu is trying to kill the motor. i had a cel come on 3 weeks before. i had the cel read it said it is one of the o2 sensor. anyway so i drove it home and even in gear it was acting like it wanted to stall. every time the idle drops i can hear a clicking sound from behind the dash on the passenger side. i took a video i hope i can get it on here.... im at a loss i have unplugged the battery and let it sit for 5 hours. that had no change. other then the newer motor the car is all stock. i have not had the cel read since the problem to see if something new is coming up cause i can not drive it anywhere.
please watch the video
any help would be awesome
thanks mike.

no i have not replaced the o2 sensor yet.... im not sure which one it is. one is 65 bucks the other is 245. my luck its the higher one. so are u saying the main relay can make it do what its doing if its bad?
Well, which code was it throwing? That will tell you if it's the primary or secondary sensor.
I'd have it scanned again, then post the code(s) on here. That will help eliminate the guesswork.
I just watched the video. That is a very strange, rhythmic clicking sound. I expected it to be something more sporadic. It also sounds like you have one hell of an exhaust leak. Anyhow, as noted, scan it again. It could possibly be the ECU.
Hopefully someone else had the same problem, that way they can chime in and shed some light on it.

yes i have an exhaust leak but that is the least of my worries..
here i have another video after the idle stops dropping and a pic of the relays and stuff behind the glove box. altho i do not have a tac im guessing it will only rev to 2000-2400. its like it doesn't have enough fuel. im working on getting the cel read again but it hard since i can drive it.
if im looking at this diagram right then the relay that is making the clicking sound is the fuel pump relay. which really doesn't help me.

in the pic the blue relay is what felt like it was making the clicking sound.

update but not fixed!!!!!
So I limped the car to advance auto to use there code reader. Here is what happen.
starting out it didn't want to go like it was in 3rd gear not in first.I used 2nd to start off but had to shift to d3 before 2nd would wind out cause it started cutting out. Using 2nd and d3 i got it there. I got the code reader and did what it told me to( not the first time i have use this tool) and I got link error. It told me to check the connection then repeat key off for 10sec. then on. I did that 4 times all with the same result.
Question: what on my car will cause me to get the link error?
Question: what can cause trany problems and motor problems and a gauge on the dash not to work? my only guess is something electrical but i don't know where to start.
Then im driving home(about 8 miles worth of driving by now) and i notice the temp gauge has not moved since I left. Still sitting below the cold line.
so im no farther then i was yesterday. I need help and don't know what to do....
thanks again for and help/replies

Try swapping the ECU (with a matching key) and see if that fixes it.
Usually when a scanner is unable to communicate with the ECU, it's because the ECU is faulty.
Also, if you don't have a manual, I recommend that you buy one. http://www.helminc.com/helm/product2...C01&itemtype=N

the motor i put in the car is from a 02 and i know my step dad still has that car at work. what do i look for to see if the ecu from that car will work.... also i saw post on another page that if i change the ecu the key has to be flashed or something. can somebody clarify this for me?
You don't have to reflash it if you have the matching key. Only when you change the ECU and try to use the key you already have will you need to have it reflashed. If the key and the ECU come from the same car, it's fine.
ok i will work on trying the ecu but i dont think they would have the key to the car since it a junk yard. any advice on the best way to get a key and key cylinder and a ecu other then buying them all brand new?
