5mt prelude tranny fluid suggestions?
hmmm so,, im a newb at this. and got a quick question for all you fellow preluders and honda-ers lol, so here goes.... ermmm.. what kind of transmission fluid would you guys recommend? i have a 5th gen 5MT prelude, and im sure the previous owner never bothered to change it. if anyone can suggest something please let me know. thanks!!
I'm currently running Amsoil GM Syncromesh in my T2T4 LSD trans with no problem, and it shifts like butter. But I was told that those GM Syncromesh is not good for my FACTORY LSD unit(it even says it on their bottle), so I'm going to switch it back to Honda MTF soon.
As for you, you can go with Honda MTF, Amsoil GM Syncromesh(most ppl recommend this brand), or Redline Gear Oil(I heard it's pretty good).

well im guessing my syncrhos are messed up, reverse and 4th are a bit ruff at times, i live in canada too so it gets cold here at times, and my car is a dd for now, thinking of taking her to the track once i do a few things to her first, but i was reading about gm synchromesh vs the honda mtl. umm now... how do you replace your mtl? do you just add the new stuff in with the old, like mix them? or compeltly drain the current mtl and fill it with gm synchromesh or etc..? never done this befor and this is my first car, all this still new to me.

Drain. Fill. Enjoy.
like so:
Get all 4 wheels off the ground. This requires 4 jack stands. The car has to be level.
Remove the fill plug FIRST. It's a 17mm bolt that's slightly above axle level. It'll be located next to the passenger side axle hole kinda.
Then remove the drain plug. You stick a 3/8'' ratchet on it and remove it. It's a square head bolt. It's a good idea to use a new drain plug washer. It's the same as the oil pan plug washer.
Let the smelly *** fluid drain out completely. Then replace the drain plug. Don't tighten it too much or you'll crack the trans case. IIRC, spec is like 35LBS or something.
I use a funnel with a flexible hose on the end to refill the trans. You just pour the lube into the fill plug till it dribbles out. I think preludes take like 2.5 quarts? Then replace the fill plug.
ENJOY!

awesome... thanks B serious, guess i will be doing it this weekend or next. also, which mtl would u suggest be used? since everyone says GM sm, amsoil sm, honda mtl, list goes on n on, does it really just come down to preference? or does it really make a difference on which mtl you use?
the fluid lubricant pump i got from napa works great for changing the mtf, you just screw it on to the honda mtf bottle or whatever you use, and after you have drained the trans completely you just pump two quarts in and bolt it up!
new washers are recommended by honda everytime you change the mtf.
