I would like to get the true intake temp reading rather than the reading before the turbo. I've noticed some people do this by getting the type r manifolds. I noticed on the stock manifold there is a notch where a IAT would mount but its covered up. Has anyone drilled it out and mounted a IAT there?

I've never tapped that section of the IM, but i don't see any problem in doing it. Just drill and smoothen out the right size hole for the IAT sensor and tap two holes for the screws that hold it down. Make sure you clean out the IM afterwards of any metal flakes and you should be fine.
