Default Why do I have a p28 ecu? And a another question....

Ill start this thread like I do all my other threads

I recently bouught (well traded for) a 1998 dx coupe with a b16a swap

I recently went to the track and someone asked me a very good question I did not have the answer to "what yr is your b16"

Now I have been trying to google on trying to find hints as to what model//yr the engine is. All I found was the "B16A" stamp on the block, and the valve cover has a sticker that looks like its identifying spark plugs but its completely in japanese

Question #1 = Does this mean I have a JDM b16 swap?

Also the car has a P28 ecu, chipped with chrome, but again after some googling It doesn't seem like the p28 is the ecu that came with the car

Question #2 = Is there any special reason previous owner put this ecu??

Modification are I/H/E and cams + tune (if this helps answer the ecu question)

Yes your b16a is JDM. They put the ECU more than likely because the B16A that you have doesn't have all the needed OBD2 sensors and the P28 with chrome is more easily tunable than the OBD2 ECU options they had. For the year of the engine:

hm damn another question cuz i dont understand something

i was looking at

http://asia.vtec.net/topics/b16aver.html

to try and figure out if i have the 160hp gen 1 or 170hp gen 2

The VTEC is written bigger than the dohc and pgm-fi is NOT written on the intake manifold

but the block is stamped 91...? when i look is says gen was is 89-91 then gen 2 is 92+

also has a hydro clutch.....im confused, any help?

Hopefully it's a hydro, otherwise you have a kit to do hydro to cable. What month in 91, it could be one of the first 2 gen engines.

ok well i found and chcked all this

"A2/A3/SiR II have a single- 4-wire O2 sensor instead of 2-single wire O2 sensors
A2/A3/SiR II MAP sensor is an integral part of the throttle body, not an external one with a tube.
A2/A3/SiR II harnesses are grey. SiR has cream colored ones.
SiR is PGM-F1, clearly labeled on the intake manifold, andA2/A3/SiR II are MPFI
SiR valve covers have "DOHC" written in a larger font size than "VTEC"
A2/A3/SiR II valve covers have "VTEC" written in a larger font size than "DOHC"
"

everything tells me i have a JDM B16A gen 2

Cool, it should be a blast to drive since it's got all bolt ons, cams and especially the tune.
