1987 accord hatch trans leak
i have a transmission leak some were under the starter cant find it. when its running and i but it into drive it start leaking under the starter somewhere i took the starter out to try to find the leak could not find it need help
first you need to determine what you are leaking. Is it oil, coolant, or atf? If it is oil, and you said it is coming from around the starter it could be a valve cover gasket, distributor o-ring, or going lower it could be rear main seal, or even the drain plug on a manual trans as that uses regular motor oil. If it is coolant, check all your hoses and your thermostat housing.
As stated, now we need to know what kind of fluid this is....title says trans leak, so can we assume this is trans fluid?
There is a trans cooloer pipe that runs "under" the starter and then connects to the trans, kind of near the speed sensor....went to refresh my memory on the 88 LXi auto, the only auto in that gen that is home right now.
How to fix? Well that is going to depend on if the metal pipe had a hole in it or is the rubber hose broken..

Sounds like it might be the rubber lines running from the trans cooler. Double check that that the clamps are on where they should be and if they are just go to your local parts store and get some rubber hose and replace them.

Check the bolt/fitting. I think, none of the auto's in that gen are home tonight, the bolt is a banjo bolt that would have washers sealing it.....much like how a brake hose connects to the calipers....
Also, IF you go down the hose route. BE SURE the hose is rated as trans cooler hose. DO NOT use anything else. Gates part number is like 27058 for 5/16 and 27059 for 3/8. Memory tells me that line is closer to 3/8 id.
