Default Blah.. i cant tell how fast im going....

eh well i tried to include pics in my question to help explain my situation but it didnt work.. so screw it, here goes. So i have a tranny swap in my 01 prelude (m2s4) and the speed sensor i currenly have from a 5th gen doesnt work with it... so what do i do just take the sensor off the top of the 5th gen and try to bolt it on the 4th gen vss and put a hose that recirculates the two unused p/s inlets?

ok well now for some serious suggestions and trouble shooting.. i really need to get this f-in thing fixed... so this is whats going on to catch yall up to speed.. i bought the car and the speedometer worked and while driving it it was jumping a little bit but it worked for the most part.. then slowly started messin up... now i cant get it to work at all.. it has a m2s4 tranny swap in it cause it used to be auto.. it had a 5th gen sensor in it at first and it wasnt bolted in cause the bracket was broke so i bought a whole new one.. replace it and it didnt work and the bracket didnt match up anyway... so i decided to buy one that came on the model tranny.. so i did and swapped the top half out with the 5th gen and bolted it in, i didnt have a 10mm socket so i used vise grips to get as tight as i could.. connect it and it still wont read anything... speedometer and odom dont work.. but heres the weird thing, the car has a swapped ecu obdII down to obdI p28 chipped with launch control... and i believe that its not the vss because the ecu can tell when the car is moving... i based this hypothesis on the fact that when sitting still the launch control works and holds steady at 3k and dont move.... and if youre moving at all, itll go past that... so wtf!? where do i go from here!? im sayin could a gear be bad in the tranny? and could i tell by looking in when i take out the vss? or how about the ecu? i dont know anyone to swap ecus with so id have to buy one... any help please?.. im stuck... i even took out the cluster to see if i could see anything... i dont have a multimeter... i looked at the wires and stuff around the connector, theres nothing frayed and everything seems fine... i did however get some tranny fluid on the connector, could that be the problem?

sorry for babling but this is pissing me off besides this im trying to figure out why it runs weird with the a/c on and tries stalling out.. i think its iac but i havent bought one yet... maybe i should try to get another chipped p28 with h22 basemap or what? idk im trying to diagnose with limited tools, and not spending alot of money lol... looks like im SOL!

btw i was reading and most people say that when their vss is malfunctioning vtech wont work... well mine does.. and i also check fuse #14 is looked okay but i switch with another 15a just incase...

^None of those places carry that manual, it has to be ordered directly from Helm Inc., it's the Honda factory manual, a google search will help you find a download though.

Your problem with the stalling when the ac is turned on is most likely that ac isn't programmed in the ecu. I just had that same problem with my wife's h22 accord with a p28 chipped with chrome. So I would try and figure out who loaded the map on the ecu and ask them if they turned the ac on or not. The ecu is supposed to idle the engine up a little when the ac is turned on.

Sounds like its a connection issue, either at the ecu or in the dash. Check all connections and continuity between the ecu and dash, where it goes into the speedo cluster.

yeah i replaced the iacv today and i noticed a difference but it still stalls with ac and idles low.. with everything off and idle screw as far as itll go in it idles high at like 1200... so i just order a new chips from phearable.net... i think they know what theyre doing so i shouldnt have to tell them to turn the ac or anything on right? lol. but yeah i havent tried tackling the speedometer with my multimeter yet it looks like its going to be a short or the speedometer.. i almost feel like replacing the speedometer for good measure but i guess thatd be stupid and a waste of money if it wasnt it... i just wish it is so its easy lol.. cause i dunno how in the hell id replace the damn wires... buy a new harness?

Naw just find the pin on the ecu and find out what wire on the speedo and use the ohms to to see if theres a cut in the wire.. if so you could run a jumper wire its pretty simple

I'm having an issue with my vss not working I replaced it 2 times thinking the first one was defected but still nothing when I took it to the shop the guy said it's either the speedometer or the ecu I'm planning to get a obd2-obd1 jumper harness with a chipped p28 ecu hoping that will solve the problem if that doesn't work then I know it's either the connecter or the speedometer gadge hopefully it's the ecu >_<

well i also read about people saying it could be their ecu... when i talked to the guy at phearable about it he said hes never heard of that... so im just talking his word for it... and hoping its a short or the speedo.. i guess one good thing about it not working is i dont put mileage on my car :-P... but its still retarded, and i dont want to look at a gps or my phone for speed... f all that ish

also make sure to inspect the little gear at the bottom of the whole vss unit.
The one that was in my car was worn badly on the gear, and the speedo at first did the jump around thing, then stopped working, then b/c i had launch control...wouldn't rev over 3.5k in 1st and 2nd, every other gear was fine. Just sayin....check the gear.

Ever since I replaced that piece I've had no issue
