hybrid shifter box onto h22a tranny!
hey guys,
after being disgusted with the feel of the stock shifting pattern and overall feel of the h22a format. I was curious about hybrid racings shifter box.
I asked around for a bit if anyone had used one on an h22a car, no one could give me 100% answers on it so i finally said screw it and bought the shifter box.
When i received the box i loved the quality behind it top notch stuff here, i followed the directions that came with the box for installation.
Now when i went to install the stock h22a cables to the shifter box, the ID of the cables (the hole at the end of the shift cable, that attaches to the pin on the shifter) was to small for the hybrid-racing shifter box.
Now more then likely you could very easily have bored the holes out on the h22a shift cables but I was to lazy and went ahead and just ordered the hybrid-racing shift cables.
when i ordered the hybrid-racing shift cables i had to talk to an engineer there by the name of Russell Garehan(awesome guy to deal with) we talked back and forth about my options. So for the time being I ordered the shift cables with the transmission side bushings not completely assembled that way i could adjust the bushings in and out to meet the different requirements needed for the h22a compared to the k-series.
That worked for the back and forth cable that selects your gears. Unfortunately it didn't work for side to side selector, for this i made a very simple stand off a little over an inch that moved the bushing out to reach the side to side selector on the transmission.
the main reason this had to be done with the cables is the design of the bracket between the K-series and h-series is much different, the length of the cables is about right they are a little tight so i will see how that goes once the car is completely up and running.
in the next week if there is any interest in this at all i will get some pics uploaded.
thanks!

i hate to comment on it to much till i get some mileage on it, but from the feel of the shifter i would say its a very large upgrade compared to the stock setup/forbidden shifter i use to have.
Do you think designing a new bracket for the trans could help solve some the the issues. I have been toying with this in my head for the wifes car and that was always what seem to be the best way. I would love to see how this looks in the car.
it looks amazing! yes that was actually russells first option for me, but the way i saw it was it is kinda hit n miss when designing the bracket due to different variations in what mounts your using, then you have to make sure to keep your elevation straight with the gear selectors on the transmission so to me it was easier just to make an adapter that was drilled on one end and tapped for 1/4-28 and on the other end just threaded 1/4-28 with a die.
and once thats made you just adjust the bushings till the shifter goes into all gears and returns to center when pulling it out of gear, once you found your sweet spot mark it throw some thread locker on there and wa-lah!

awsome i've always wondered about doing this and i too have never seen anyone do it, congrats sohctodohc for nuttin up and trying it out!!! i cant wait to see the outcome
nuttin up is definately the word for it as between there cables and box its a bit of a price tag on it, but like i said the cost could be cut in hafl if you were to re-use the stock cables.
as soon as work allows me to leave for more then a couple hours at a time i will get some pics but were swamped here so the last thing on my mind right now is taking some pics haha
well hopefully i will have some pics for everyone in the next couple days, I also emailed the engineer and salesman at hybrid and they havent emailed me back or chimed in.

contacted Hybrid today about their shift cable billet BB inserts, evidently the RSX ones are the same diameter as the H. I need to pull my H ones out to mic and double check and verify. Dave at hybrid was really cool
Hurry up and take pics.
