Default Clutch Problems 06 TL

Hi,
I have a few issues with my clutch and I know it will need to be replaced, but maybe someone can help pinpoint what has failed before buying parts and pulling it apart.
here is what its doing

-Squeeking noise with clutch pedel out. It does this in netural or in gear. Gets faster with speed and is easily heard at city driving speeds in any gear.
Also, a light bit of pressure on the clutch pedal makes it go way, (maybe just pushing the 1/4 inch or so of free play)

-Secondly, There is a vibration felt in the clutch pedal. Its only in the clutch and its when its about 1/2 way to all the way out. Push it all the way in... you dont feel it.

-Lastly, the clutch feels grabby and is hard to start off from a stop smoothly. The clutch pedal feels fairly notchy.

So if you are technical, your input would be appriciated. I know I need to do a clutch kit, as something has failed, im just curious what.... and if i should order a flywheel too
Thanks Guys

I'm no expert on the Acura TL but I have placed many clutches in my time. That sounds like a dead throw out bearing. It should always be replaced along with the clutch.

Just sounds like your clutch is dead probably little to no pad left and probably using the rivets. I'd replace it soon before you destroy the flywheel.

Hi,

What's your mileage and how is your driving style (be honest).

From the symptoms you stated it honestly sounds like your clutch assembly is failing like nsxxtreme stated.

The vibration in the clutch pedal is from your pressure plate. What you're feeling is the uneven amounts of pressure it is giving during rotation. Also the grabby and hard to engage is another cause of this.

So I would replace your throwout bearing, clutch assembly (disc/pressure plate) and go ahead and upgrade your Flywheel if you want, it'll be a worthwhile upgrade, if not then be sure to get it resurfaced.

I hope this helps good luck!

Hi, thanks guys for the input.
To answer the question regarding the driving style, I bought the car last week, and was delivered with the clutch this way.

After a tear down, the disc was in good shape, the the pressure plate is warped and there is finger wear that is eveident of "riding the clutch"
also the flywheel and pressure plate surfaces are burnt and discolored from heat.
I ordered OEM DUal mass flywheel and Clutch set.
both bearings getting repaced.
car should be good to drive in no time.

Also there is a Self Adjusting Clutch (SAC) in this car
and a Dual MAss FLywheel

Both these are unusual to me, and I figured I would go all OEM for parts.
Thanks

Yes those components were engineered to give a tame clutch feel whenever you needed to engage the clutch. There's a special tool acura has to install the pressure plate preloaded and if the procedure isn't done correctly you'll get crappy feedback from the clutch pedal.

I called exedy regarding this tool shown in the service manual, they tell me with a brand new clutch its pre loaded, as long as the bolt are tightened carefully and uniformly no special tool is recomended. Now im curious

Sorry i showed up late, but I thought I would let you know....

LUK Makes the OEM clutch and flywheel. You can get these parts from LUK a lot cheaper than Honda/Acura. They are sold on eBay for like $300 each. I know the best price for the flywheel OEM is like $500+.
